Two arrested after Carson City traffic stop leads to drugs, burglary tools

Carson City patrol officers who stopped a Suburban for speeding on Monday morning found drugs and burglary tools inside the vehicle set to be impounded.

Two men were arrested and face multiple charges. The arrests were made at 7:24 a.m. in the 1000 block of Fairview. Alex Matthew Silva, 26, of Dayton faces felony drug possession charges and misdemeanor possession of burglary tools. The other is a 28-year-old Sparks man who faces misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor charges.

According to the arrest report officers stopped the Suburban traveling east on Fairview doing 50 mph in a posted 35 mph zone. Officers met with the driver of the truck, the 28-year-old Sparks man, who told officers he had no proof of insurance or registration on the vehicle, stating it belonged to his brother who had brought it from someone else, the arrest report states. The man also informed officers that he was an ex-felon for vehicle burglary.

The Sparks man was issued a citation for speeding, no proof of insurance and no registration. The man signed the citation and was informed the vehicle was to be impounded for no proof of insurance.

The Sparks man and passenger Silva were released from the scene. Officers asked the men if they wanted any property from the vehicle. Silva stated he did not want anything from the vehicle and the Sparks man retrieved some small property from the front seat area and began to walk away west on Fairview, the arrest report states.

A tow truck was called and inventory of the truck began. There was a black pack pack near the driver's seat. Inside were several small lock pick files, small extendable mirrors and pliers, and a small digital scale, the arrest report states.

In a camouflage pack on the back seat of the floor board was a hack saw and other lock pick items wrapped in a cloth around a police scanner. There were numerous baggies of marijuana individually packaged for sale with a digital scaled, the report states.

The men were found walking on Fairview, detained, and read their Miranda rights. The Sparks man said he did not want to talk. Silva stated nothing in the vehicle was his. Both were arrested.

The back pack, which had letters inside addressed to Silva, was where the baggies of marijuana, electronic scale and a baggie of numerous pills identified as cyclobenzaprine, a prescription muscle relaxer, were found.

The Sparks man was booked for gross misdemeanor possession of burglary tools, basic speed, no proof of insurance and no proof of registration with the earlier citation voided. The man also had a gas credit card and a health insurance card belonging to victims of a residential burglary, the report states. Bail: $3,441.

Silva faces felony charges of possession of controlled substances for sales, possession of a prescription drug without a prescription, gross misdemeanor possession of burglary tools, possession of more than an ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $11,874.
