Carson City Sheriff's SET: Traffic stop leads to large amounts of heroin, meth and marijuana
A 38-year-old California man was arrested Saturday by the Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team for suspicion of multiple felony drug trafficking, possession and other offenses after a traffic stop led deputies to large amounts of methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana.
David Edward Elliston Jr., of Brisbane, Calif., was arrested for two counts drug trafficking, possession with intent to sell, drug possession, being a habitual criminal with more than three felony convictions, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and two misdemeanors, failing to stop at a stop sign and drug paraphernalia. He is being held at Carson City Jail on $250,000 bail.
According to at the arrest report, SET deputies were assigned to an area due to an increase in complaints of drug activity. While patrolling a deputy observed a vehicle commit a stop sign violation in the 2400 block of South Curry Street.
The officer made a traffic stop, where the driver, Elliston, presented the deputy with an expired driver's license. An officer asked the man to step out of the vehicle to conduct a records check and to issue a citation. The man also stated he was recently paroled from prison in California. A canine was requested to do an exterior sniff of the vehicle, which alerted positive for the presence of a drug odor on the vehicle, the arrest report states.
The suspect became increasingly nervous as deputies began to search the vehicle, scanning around the officer and looking for an escape route, the report state. He was then detained in handcuffs. During the search, officers located multiple items related to drugs and drug sales including the following:
— Six baggies of methamphetamine in a container with weights of 30.6 grams, 31.1 grams, 60.7 grams, 31.1 grams, 30 grams and 4.3 grams with a combined with of 187.8 grams of methamphetamine.
— Five bags of heroin weighing .2 grams (three bags) 10.8 grams and 9.5 grams with a combined weight of 20.9 grams.
— Three bags of marijuana weighting 2 grams, 36 grams, and 226 grams with a combined weight of 264 grams.
— Several pieces of paraphernalia including hypodermic devices, q-tips, and a methamphetamine pipe.
— A digital scale.
Deputies tested the suspected the heroin and methamphetamine which resulted in presumptive positive for the drugs. There was $792 in cash located in the overhead compartment of the vehicle, with $20 on the suspect's person. The bills were in smaller denominations, commonly seen with street-level drug sales, the arrest report states. He was also in possession of two cellular phones and there was also a Hi-point 9mm semi-automatic handgun with ammunition on the passenger seat floorboard located inside a power toolbox, the arrest report states.
