Truck of slain Nevada insurance examiner found in Douglas County

Carson City authorities say the missing truck of William McCune, the Nevada insurance examiner whose body was found Saturday in the Carson River, has been recovered. Four are in custody facing murder charges.

UPDATE: The body of a man believed to be an insurance examiner for Nevada who was reported missing Thursday and whose apartment was ransacked, was found Saturday morning in the Carson River. It was wrapped in a blanket and bound in duct tape, authorities said. An autopsy has been finished.

Four now face murder charges after two of the suspects charges were upgraded. They are Michael Paul Evans, 23, who was found in Carson City early Saturday morning. Three others, two men and one woman, were arrested in Las Vegas and have been cooperating with authorities, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said. They are Anthony Elliott, 20; Makyla L. Blackmore, 20 and Raul Garcia, 22. Residential robbery is believed to be the motive, Furlong told KOLO.

Evans was booked into the Carson City Jail and faces charges of murder, murder of an older person, battery with a deadly weapon causing substantial bodily harm and burglary. Bail is $550,000.

According to Sheriff Furlong, during the early morning hours on Saturday, the Carson City Special Enforcement Team coordinated with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and arrested the three, who are expected to be returned to Carson City within the week.

Robbery reported at AM/PM South Carson Street

A robbery has been reported this afternoon at the AM/PM on South Carson Street in Carson City. It happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. The suspect is said to have taken off with money he took from a customer and a weapon was not seen.

The suspect is reported to be a Hispanic or white male who jumped into the passenger seat of a green SUV or Dodge wagon that was last seen headed westbound near 7th Street. The suspect is described as wearing a camouflage green jacket, light in color and blue jeans, according to a description given to Carson City sheriff's deputies.

Former Carson City man known as 'Fedora Bandit' admits to string of bank robberies

The 'Fedora Bandit' who robbed banks in Carson City and South Lake Tahoe among several others, pled guilty Friday to three counts of armed bank robbery, United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced.

David Griffith Osborne, 74, formerly of Carson City, made pleas to three counts of armed bank robbery, United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner said. Osborne admitted he had robbed Bank of the West on 2976 North Carson Street, in Carson City. He also admitted to the Feb. 18, 2010 robbery at the Bank of the West, 2160 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe and the March 9, 2010 robbery at Bank of the West in Kings Beach and a March 31, 2010 robbery in Grass Valley.

The following is from Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong: At approximately 9:08 a.m. Monday the Carson City Sheriff’s Office was informed of a bank robbery at the Wells Fargo Bank located at the corner of Stewart and Musser Streets in downtown Carson City. The suspect was described as a white male adult, approximately 30 years old, 5 foot 6 inches tall, wearing blue jeans and a black (or dark) hoody.

UPDATE 7:17PM: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said the two suspects captured after this morning's Wells Fargo bank robbery may be tied to a Nevada State Bank robbery in Reno. Carson City authorities make arrest in U.S. Bank robbery

A 46-year-old Carson City man who had served time in prison for bank robbery, faces federal charges in connection with Monday's hold up of the U.S. Bank in North Carson City.
Thomas E. Baye was arrested Monday night after authorities found items in his home that directly associated him with the robbery, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Suspect detained in U.S. Bank robbery on Market Street in Carson City

6:24PM UPDATE: With a secured warrant, Carson City authorities have begun to look through the vehicle and home occupied by a man detained and being questioned about the U.S. Bank robbery on Market Street at around 3:30 this afternoon. Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said the man has not left the property, remains detained and is being questioned. The owner of the home, apparently the man's landlord, was also speaking with authorities.

Authorities are also said to be at the U.S. Bank site. Witnesses told authorities the man used a handgun in the robbery and left with money. An unconfirmed report via the police scanner early in the investigation was that the money was recovered near a trash bin.

Witnesses said the suspect was a white male, gray hair, in his 40s, wearing gloves and a hoodie.

UPDATE 5PM: Carson City authorities have detained a man and are now questioning him after a robbery this afternoon at the U.S. Bank on Market Street. Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said that a vehicle description and license plate number were secured by witnesses to the robbery. The license came back to the home in the 1000 block of Washington street near Richmond.
The identification, after a wants and warrants search, came back to a man who had a previous conviction of armed robbery, said Furlong. The vehicle matching the description as the getaway truck was found inside the garage of the home and authorities obtained a search warrant to enter the home and the garage.

Update 4:30 p.m.: The suspect has been detained and is interviewed. A search warrant is being secured and deputies prepare to enter the house. Streets in the area remain blocked off.

4:15: Carson Sheriff SWAT team on the scene at a residence at Washington near Richmond where they believe the suspect of this afternoon's bank robbery is holed up. A witness gave deputies a description and license number of the truck that was seen leaving the bank. Deputies then responded to the residence where the truck was registered, and saw the truck inside the garage.

The U.S. Bank on Market Street in Carson City was robbed at 3:28 p.m., Monday. Authorities are responding to the bank, where the robber, described as a white male in his 40s, gray hair, wearing a hoodie and a mask, and rubber gloves robbed the bank of an undermined amount of money, using a handgun or possibly a semi-automatic weapon.

Man in custody after alleged robbery with knife at Walmart

Carson City authorities detained a man who reportedly pulled a knife on a Walmart employee and stole food items.
Walmart security reported the robbery 3:50 p.m. on Sunday. Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputies chased the man who ran on foot to the Carson City line and Carson City deputies tracked him to an area near Bodines Casino. He was detained by Carson City deputies at 4:06 p.m. and placed under arrest by Douglas County authorities.

Crime Log: Three men arrested in Carson City for methamphetamine allegations

Carson City Sheriff's deputies have arrested the following individuals based on felony or gross misdemeanor allegations:

  • Terris Lee French III, 35, a Carson City man, at 10:30 p.m. Friday. French was arrested for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and violation of Parole and Probation restrictions. No bail has been set.
  • Jose Garcia-Gaona, 35, a Carson City man, at 1 p.m. Saturday. Garcia-Gaona was arrested for an unspecified felony warrant as well as trafficking of methamphetamines (588 grams). Bail is set at $252,500.

Parolee turns himself into Douglas County authorities

UPDATE: On Wednesday morning at approximately 6:45 am, parolee absconder Randy Nourse turned himself over to deputies at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Minden Station.
Nourse was previously reported as a fugitive from justice by the State of California, Department of Parole and Probation.
Nourse was safely taken into custody by Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputies without incident.
Nourse will remain in the Douglas County Jail pending his extradition back to California.

Rachel Barrett, 30, was sentenced up to 15 years in prison for her attempt to rob the Nevada State Bank on South Carson Street in October. Armed with a BB pistol, she handed the teller a note and made off with $643 in cash. She was found a short time later at her apartment a few blocks away. District Judge Todd Russell sentenced her to 26-120 months for the robbery, plus a consecutive 24-60 months for a crime against a senior citizen, since the teller was 72 years old. She also received a concurrent 16-72 months sentence for burglary.

Jorge Dominguez-Gomez was sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison for molesting two 11-year-old girls. Dominguez-Gomez, 37, confessed to the crimes, and will not be eligible for parole for at least 20 years.

According to Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi, the cause of last Friday's Larel Fire will go down as undetermined. Giomi said their investigation didn't turn up evidence off what started the 318 acre fire east of Deer Run Road. The blaze initially threatened about 20 homes before wind gusts up to 60 mph pushed the flame away, into the dry brush in Brunswick Canyon.

Judge gives 13-year-old life in prison for his part in robbery spree murder

Washoe District Judge Patrick Flanagan on Friday said he found "no redeeming value" in 13-year-old Jose Cruz, and sentenced him to a life term for his role in the Mother's Day fatal shooting of Steve Gale, 27. Cruz, the state's youngest convicted murderer in recent years, must serve 16 years in prison before he is eligible for parole.
