Carson City, Douglas theater companies unite, pen letter regarding future performances

The community theatre companies in Carson City and Douglas County, along with our local performance venues, have created a coalition with the goal of navigating the challenges specific to our local theatre community brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Current organizations involved include: The Brewery Arts Center, Carson Valley Community Theatre, Proscenium Players, Inc., Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company, Wild Horse Productions and Youth Theatre Carson City.
On May 14, our coalition met online to discuss the current situation and collectively decided to postpone all live theatre performances until at least Sept. 6, 2020 (Labor Day.)
This decision was made in alignment with other theatrical organizations nationwide including the Broadway League.
In a recent statement, Broadway League President Charlotte St. Martin said: "While all Broadway shows would love to resume performances as soon as possible, we need to ensure the health and well-being of everyone who comes to the theatre — behind the curtain and in front of it — before shows can return."
Although we operate at a smaller scale than Broadway theaters, our top priority is also the health and well-being of our community. So, while this decision was incredibly difficult, we all feel that it is the right choice for our cast, crew and audiences.
Although live theatre performances will be postponed, we are all committed to creating innovative ways to keep the arts alive in our community during this time.

We will continue to work with city and state officials to determine an appropriate date for performances to resume and will provide updates to you as decisions are made.
