Carson City sheriff's arrest log: Felony fugitive warrant leads to heroin discovery

A 29-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday on a fugitive from justice warrant issued out of Utah and local felony drug charges after a search warrant was issued leading to the discovery of balloons filled with heroin, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Arrested was Mark Berg in the 1400 block of North Carson Street. He faces local charges of possession of heroin and four counts possession of drug paraphernalia. According to the arrest report, officers obtained a search warrant after a K9 sniff was done in the commons area of an apartment Berg had lived at. The K9 drug dog detected a positive scent at the apartment door where the man was living. The man had told officers earlier to get a search warrant if they wanted to search his residence.

A Carson City judge granted the warrant authorizing a search of the man’s apartment. Inside officers found a package of cigarettes in the man’s pants that contained a small red balloon with suspected heroin.

Deputies located a spoon and cotton ball in a dresser, a spoon and two hypodermic needles rolled up on a red washcloth in the closet and another red balloon in an empty cigarette box. Four empty balloons were also found in the garbage can in the bedroom. He was arrested at 6:35 p.m. on the local charges and the felony fugitive from justice warrant issued out of Cedar City, Utah.
