Carson City arrests: Woman with prison escape warrant jailed early Thursday

A 44-year-old Carson City woman was arrested early Thursday morning for a felony escaped prisoner warrant issued through the Nevada Department of Corrections, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Sally Jean Whooley was taken into custody at Menlo Drive and Ashby Court at 2:54 a.m. She also faces a misdemeanor charge of obstruction.

According to the arrest report, a deputy patrolling the area stopped two as they were walking through a neighborhood. The deputy asked the woman for identification information. The woman gave the officer a different name and age. Dispatch advised there wasn’t a match of such a person.

The officer advised that she would be detained until she could provide identification. The woman advised she was Whooley. A records check showed she had a warrant issued through the Nevada Department of Corrections for an escaped prisoner violation.

In other arrests:
— A 29-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday, 10:25 p.m. in the 2900 block of Menlo Drive for a misdemeanor domestic battery warrant issued Dec. 5, 2016 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.

— A 56-year-old transient, Robert Lawson White, was arrested Wednesday, 8:24 p.m. in the 500 block of East William Street for felony suspicion of attempted shoplifting and misdemeanor attempted petit larceny and being a convicted felon failing to register. According to the arrest report, the man allegedly attempted to steal $108 worth of food and alcohol from a grocery store.

Deputies arrested him and conducted a records check that showed three prior felony convictions and that he was not registered as a convicted felon in Carson City. Bail: $3,074.

— A 30-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday, 6:40 p.m. in the 400 block of East Park Street for misdemeanor suspicion of violation of a temporary protection order and damage to a motor vehicle. Bail: $3,774.

— A 38-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday, 9:32 a.m. in the area of Kit Sierra Loop for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery. According to the arrest report, the victim said she was struck in the arm and back during an argument with her husband. She also told deputies he grabbed a knife and pointed at her neck, the arrest report states.

The husband told deputies he grabbed the woman to take her keys away and pushed her away from the car. He denied he grabbed a knife during the argument. The deputy observed the victim had redness on her forearm area. Bail: $3,137.

— A 38-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Wednesday, 8:03 a.m. for a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant issued April 4, 2017 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $955.

— An 18-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Tuesday, 9:49 p.m. in the 4300 block of North Carson Street for suspicion of gross misdemeanor battery on a police officer, as well as the following misdemeanors: DUI, minor consuming alcohol and driving on a suspended license. According to the arrest report, a deputy was called to a convenience store for a report of an intoxicated female driver who was having difficulty walking and was being verbal with other customers.

The deputy arrived and made contact with the woman. She had been in her own vehicle, and then went to another vehicle and entered the passenger side. She was witnessed driving by convenience store staff.

The officer asked the woman to get out of the vehicle that wasn’t hers. He observed her to be unsteady on her feet and smelled of alcohol. The officer asked how much alcohol she had consumed. The woman stated none and then not enough, the arrest report states. The officer asked her how old she was. The woman told the officer to guess. The officer stated 19. The woman stated 20, according to the arrest report.

The women then walked to her vehicle to get her license. She got into the vehicle and closed the door and handed the officer a blank key card. The officer again asked for her license.

She opened the driver’s door. The officer advised she stay in the vehicle. She continued to look for her driver’s license, and then told the officer to go f*** himself, the arrest report states. She continued to be verbally uncooperative and then removed her jacket and stated this wasn’t the first time going to jail.

She then reached for the door handle and kicked the driver’s door open, striking the officer in the left shoulder. She then rapidly exited the vehicle. The officer grabbed the woman by the arm. The woman struck the officer with her arms and feet several times, the report states.

The officer told the woman to stop fighting. She refused and kept using profanity. She was placed into cuffs and taken into custody. She refused a preliminary breath test. The officer read the woman a request for voluntary evidence and explained her refusal would result in revocation of her license for up to a year. The woman told the officer she wanted an attorney several times and then stated no, the arrest report states.

A telephonic search warrant was granted for two samples of blood for DUI alcohol. The woman was combative at the time of the blood draw. During an inventory of the woman’s vehicle officers located her driver’s license that confirmed her identity and that she was 18. Bail: $4,516.

Around 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday a rollover crash involving one vehicle was reported on Highway 50 in the westbound lanes near Flint Drive.

First responders are on scene.

Motorists must use caution while in the area.

Just before noon on Tuesday a crash with injuries was reported on the I-580 on ramp from N. Carson Street.

According to dispatch there are two vehicles involved, one of which was towing a trailer.

Injuries have been reported and the number two lane is blocked.

Traffic cameras show vehicles are moving slowly but are able to get through to Washoe Valley.

Motorists must use caution in the area.
