Carson City sheriff's log: Deputies make arrests for drugs, warrants and DUI

A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of drug possession, misdemeanor warrants and open container, a sheriff's deputy said.

Jordan Montgomery Osborn was taken into custody at 5:10 p.m. in the 700 block of East William Street. According to the arrest report a deputy did a registration check on a vehicle that returned with expired registration. The deputy made a traffic stop and made contact with the driver.

Dispatch advised Osborn's license was suspended and he had two confirmed warrants from the Nevada Highway Patrol. He was arrested for the warrants and driving on a suspended license. Osborn told the officer that he couldn't search the car. The deputy notes in his report that he hadn't mentioned anything to the man regarding a search of the vehicle. A deputy deployed K9 Tarzan to do an exterior sniff of the vehicle.

The dog alerted positive and a search was conducted. Behind the driver's seat was an open container of IPA beer. In the front floorboard area was an open and mostly empty can of beer. Behind the passenger seat was a jacket that contained a baggie with a small amount of what appeared to be methamphetamine inside, the arrest report states.

Deputies collected the evidence and interviewed the man, reading him his Miranda warning. The man said the open containers were from the day prior. A deputy asked if he would provide a preliminary breath test. The man told the officer a breath test would show he had been drinking. The preliminary breath test resulted in .03.

He was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor open container, driving on a suspended license and two contempt of court warrants issued in January and November 2018. Bail amount listed: $4,537.
