Carson City's The Fox to hold fundraiser for local family to avert daughter’s cancer medical costs
Local restaurant and brewery, The Fox Brewpub, will hold a fundraiser for a local family whose daughter was recently diagnosed with cancer on Saturday, April 6 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.
The event, which will raise funds for ten year-old Aylee Sharron, who was recently diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma and is the daughter of Mariel and Tony Sharron, will feature a raffle and live-music.
The family has received support from the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation (NNCCF) and have been the recipients of several local fundraisers in addition to a GoFundMe page.
Aylee Sharron participates in all-star competition cheer with GCC Nevada which has allowed her to travel all over the nation to compete. However, because of her cancer diagnosis, Aylee has been unable to participate in cheer and has been limited in her daily activities due to the aggressive chemotherapy treatments she has undergone.
In addition to the support that Aylee has received through organizations and from family and friends, Aylee has received an outpouring of support due to her mother’s deep roots in the community.
Mariel Sharron helped open The Fox Brewpub (formerly The Firkin and Fox) before heading to Las Vegas to open and manage The Firkin and Hound. Upon her return to Reno, she became the entertainment manager for Grand Sierra Resort and Casino’s Grand Theatre and Lex Nightclub.
Now, as a stay-at-home mom to Aylee and her two brothers, Mariel is a vital part of the Carson City community, volunteering with her children’s youth programs in baseball, football and cheerleading.
“Aylee’s diagnosis has greatly impacted our family, not just emotionally, but financially as well,” said Mariel Sharron. “We didn’t realize how quickly everything would add up between hospital copays, the cost of our private insurance and everything in between so we have been incredibly greatful for the communities support. We are also thankful for the NNCCF who has provided us an unwavering support system by checking in on us and covering the entire cost of Aylee’s wig, allowing us to focus more time on our family.”
The event will be held on Saturday, April 6 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in McFadden Plaza in Carson City. The event will feature a raffle of locally donated items and live music. Additionally, the Fox Brewpub will donate a portion of the proceeds from the event back to the Sharron family.
