Drunken man arrested for kicking deputy after turning himself in for non-existent warrants

A 31-year-old Dayton man was arrested for resisting arrest after coming to turn himself in to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office on an active warrant that he did not have.

According to the arrest report, deputies responded to a call at the front counter of the Sheriff’s Office regarding an uncooperative subject.

The man had come to the front desk to turn himself in on an active warrant arrest. Deputies noted that he had been swearing and yelling at the person at the front desk as they approached.

Deputies reported the man was highly intoxicated and belligerent. When deputies attempted to speak with the man, he refused to talk with them.

When deputies asked for his identification to make sure he did have an active warrant, the man handed deputies his wallet and told them to “smoke it.”

Due to the man’s demeanor and level of intoxication, deputies decided to detain him for the safety of volunteer and civilian staff present. Deputies attempted to place the man in handcuffs, but he continued to tense up and pull away from deputies.

Deputies then asked dispatch to run the man for any wants or warrants, which they advised he did not have. However, he was active under Carson City Department of Alternative Sentencing supervision, and one of his conditions was to abstain from alcohol.

The man’s preliminary breath test came back with a .280 breath-alcohol content (BAC).

While they were escorting the man to the Carson City Jail on a probation violation charge, the man refused to walk and attempted to pull away from deputies. He was then placed in a patrol vehicle and driven to the jail.

While walking into the jail, the man kicked a deputy in the shin and attempted to trip him.

The man was charged with misdemeanor probation violation, resisting a public officer, and gross misdemeanor battery on a protected person.

— A 41-year-old transient man was arrested in the 4200 block of U.S. Highway 50 Wednesday morning on misdemeanor charges of five counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with suspended registration, and driving without proof of insurance.

Deputies arrested the man after running the car’s registration while it was traveling northbound on Fairview Drive. Vehicle registration was shown to be suspended.

The man allegedly told deputies he had marijuana in the car, and deputies checked, verifying it was less than one ounce.

Deputies decided it was necessary to tow the vehicle, because it was unsafe for the road.

The man told deputies he had smoked methamphetamine some time in the past couple of months, according to the arrest report.

A K-9 unit was deployed and an exterior sniff conducted around the vehicle. A positive alert was noted.

Inside the car deputies located two methamphetamine pipes, one with residue and one without residue. Later, they found four more methamphetamine pipes, three of which had residue, and two tooter straws, both containing residue.

He was transported to the jail without incident.

Bail: $1,952
