Tradition continues: 38th annual Nevada Day Chili Feed returns to Carson Nugget Casino
Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske and Senator James Settelmeyer will continue the tradition of hosting the Annual Nevada Day Chili Feed at the Carson Nugget on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020.
History of the Nevada Day Chili Feed
The Nevada Day Chili Feed began in 1982 and has continued to be a Nevada Day Tradition. Originally the Chili Feed was hosted by former US Senator Richard Bryan when he was running for Governor of Nevada. Richard Bryan approaches Hop Adams, who was the owner of the Carson Nugget, and proposed the idea of hosting a Free chili feed at the Carson Nugget. When recalling the first Chili Feed Senator Bryan said, “We were the first in the Carson Nugget’s new Ballroom and hosted the Chili Feed on Nevada Day.”
Richard Bryan continued to host the Chili Feed for the first 19 years and was then was passed to former Lieutenant Governor Brian Krolicki. Brian Krolick had reached out to Richard Bryan asking if he could host the tradition of the Nevada Day Chili Feed. Richard Bryan said, “When Brian Krolicki called me and asked if he could take over the event, I was honored, but I told him…I don’t know if it is mine to give you … you better call Hop Adams.”
U.S. Senator Dean Heller later took over and successfully ran the Chili Feed from in 2015 to 2018. Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske and Senator James Settelmeyer have been hosting the event since 2019.
The current owner of the Carson Nugget, Dean DilLullo, says “The Carson Nugget is proud to keep this historic event going & we look forward this upcoming event with Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske and Senator James Settelmeyer.”
Everyone is invited to this free event, held upstairs in the Carson Nugget banquet room from noon - 2pm on Nevada Day.
