The annual Nevada Day Chili feed at the Carson Nugget and a historic east-side tour of Carson City are among two new events have been added to this weekend's roster of Nevada Day festivities.

Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske and Senator James Settelmeyer will continue the tradition of hosting the Annual Nevada Day Chili Feed at the Carson Nugget on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020.

History of the Nevada Day Chili Feed

Each October, Nevadans turn their attention to the state capitol, Carson City, home of the “official” Nevada Day Parade. Since 1938, the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City has been an annual coming together to celebrate Nevada’s heritage and the founding of this great state on October 31, 1864.

President Donald Trump sought to undermine confidence in the electoral process in Nevada during a rally in Minden Saturday evening, falsely telling a packed crowd of supporters that Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak controls millions of votes, that mail-in ballots can be accepted without signatures and that Republicans likely wouldn’t be sent mail-in ballots but dogs and dead people would.

Carson City Republican Women will meet Tuesday, August 18 at Casino Fandango at 11:30AM. Due to the duties of a Congressman, Mark Amodei will be unable to speak as was originally scheduled. However his representative Stacy Parobek will speak on his behalf.

More than a hundred teachers, parents and community members took to Carson Street in Carson City on Wednesday to protest proposed budget cuts to education.

Heading into Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019, it will be a busy day ahead around the capital city including a Carson City Chamber of Commerce luncheon with Nevada's chief economist, a GOP Women's Club luncheon with Nevada State Senator James Settelmeyer, Sierra Lutheran will host its 7th and 8th Grade Visitation Day, plus a morning walk, evening hike with Muscle Powered, archery at Centennial Park, art night at the library and more. The public town forum Monday evening at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall brought together political candidates to take questions from the audience and discuss their platforms.

California Gov. Jerry Brown signed legislation that will make attending Lake Tahoe Community College more affordable for residents in neighboring Nevada communities.

The Nevada Senate voted on Gov. Brian Sandoval's tax plan today, with 18 yes votes, to three against. The legislation passed the Assembly Sunday night and now goes for the governor to sign.
