Carson City Street Vibrations changes gears to be more family friendly
While Street Vibrations started in the parking lot of the Carson Nugget 19 years ago and quickly moved to Reno, new efforts to provide alternative events that cater to families as well as generate revenue for Carson City have been underway culminating in the return of Street Vibrations, in a family-friendly format, to downtown Carson City this weekend.
Numerous downtown businesses and local organizations, including the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, joined forces to create the Carson City Street Vibrations. Over 3,000 attendees enjoyed events in the downtown area on Saturday, September 28, 2013 starting with the Children’s Museum Pancake Breakfast at 8:00 am. Family oriented activities occurred throughout the day and included: games, raffles, a car and bike show and shine, a bicycle show and shine, local entertainment, food, libations, and a street dance. Partial proceeds went to support local non-profits, Food for Thought and the Harvest Hub.
Dana Lee Fruend, President of Downtown 2020 and owner of Agency 36 said, “The Carson City Street Vibrations was a huge success with several thousand people in attendance. We believe our event was so popular because it was Family-oriented. By partnering the business community with the various economic organizations, we have created an event that compliments other activities in the area. Efforts are in place for the return of the event next year, and we are working towards making the Carson City Street Vibrations a permanent festival.”
“Carson City Visitors Bureau is pleased to have sponsored the Carson City Street Vibrations. It is rewarding to see the positive steps the Carson City community is taking to generate economic growth, provide positive entertainment in a safe environment and support local charities. The CCVB looks forward to being an active partner in future years,” said Joel Dunn, Executive Director Carson City Visitors Bureau.
