Capital City Community Band presents 'A Salute to Young Musicians' with Youth Choirs
Under the direction of Richard Doede, the Capital City Community Band will perform its annual “A Salute to Young Musicians” concert with two choirs from Carson City, Fritsch Elementary School with Nicole Melsheimer, Conductor and Mark Twain Elementary School with Christina Bourne, Conductor, and the Carson High School Clarinet Choir.
This free concert event is Sunday, March 12, 3 p.m., Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson Community Center, 851 E. William Street.
The choirs will perform “Let There Be Peace on Earth”, “Disney at the Movies”, “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Armed Forces – The Pride of America” with the Capitol City Community Band honoring “Music in Our Schools Week”. The Carson High School Clarinet Choir will perform “Puttin’ on the Ritz”. The Band will also perform “76 Trombones” from the Music Man and “Fairest of the Fair” by John Philips Sousa as well as other marches.
Nicole Melsheimer, Conductor of the Fritsch Elementary School Choir, is a Carson High graduate and former Miss Carson City. She has been playing the piano for more than 30 years and has accompanied various musical groups at church. She was a part of the music group, “M-N-M Music,” who she recorded a CD with. Nicole received her BA in Music from the University of Nevada – Reno and her teaching license from Sierra Nevada College.
She traveled for one year in the international performing group “Up With People” and was one of the keyboard players in the cast band. Nicole was a former piano teacher, taught Kindergarten for five years and has taught music at other schools in Carson City for seven years. She now teaches music, band and choir at her former elementary school, Fritsch Elementary. Nicole enjoys traveling and spending time with her family, as well as playing the piano.
Christina Bourne, Conductor of the Mark Twain Elementary School Choir, was born and raised in Carson City, NV. She graduated with honors from Carson High School in 1997. She received her Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Nevada in 2001, and obtained her Masters in Music Education in 2007. Christina has been teaching general music and band for the Carson City School District for ten years. She was Miss Nevada 2003 and is Carson City School District Teacher of the Year for 2009. Christina enjoys volunteering her time for the Miss America Organization and other various community organization, spending time with her family, and singing professionally in her free time.
Our next concert will be Sunday, May 21, 3:00 p.m. in the Nugget Auditorium of Western Nevada College.
Come and join the fun at the at the Carson Community Center (Bob Boldrick Theater), 851 E. William Street, Carson City, Sunday, December 12th, 2017, at 3:00pm.
