Good morning Carson City! It's going to be another beautiful day in the capital city, with highs of 78 and lows of 44. On the docket today we've got a canned food drive to help the Ron Wood Center, a volunteer day to restore the Mills Park train, a Mother's Day Plant Sale, and more! New retro food ‘truck,’ Press Coffee and Waffles, rolling into Carson City this month

Press Coffee and Waffles is Carson City’s newest mobile eatery, and will be hitting the streets sometime this month to serve up two of America's favorite breakfast items to the capital city and surrounding areas.

Press Coffee and Waffles is stationed out of a vintage 1960s food cart. The cart in and of itself is eye catching, with rounded curves in an example of classic retro-futurism, which, said co-owner Aaron Gorton, is one of only 150 ever made.

Events around Carson City for Friday, May 10

The weekend is at our doorstep as we head into Friday, May 10, 2019. Even though forecasters say we may have showers this weekend, the cool spring rain won't dampen the fun. We have a bevy of activities lined up Friday including the opening of the Transcontinental Railroad exhibit at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, day 1 of the two-day Mother's Day Plant Sale hosted by The Greenhouse Project, RSVP's Spring Celebration and Carnival at Mills Park, a day hike, art showings, live music and more.

There's lots of activities ahead, including a colorful fun run at Mills Park, a free paper and document recycling event hosted by Debug Computer, a prescription drug roundup, the Silver State's own celebration of the Aloha State, a Carson High School speech team fundraiser at Flavors of India, art showings and sales and a fundraiser at Flat Earth Pizza for a wonderful Carson City woman who is in the throes of cancer. Man arrested for knife attack; woman arrested for attacking off-duty officer who wouldn't buy her Mexican food

— A 68-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 1000 block of S. Carson Street for felony assault with a deadly weapon after attempting to stab a man at a local motel. Deputies were forced to hold him at gunpoint and tase him in order to take him into custody.

NHP identifies Winnemucca resident in fatal I-80 crash in Churchill County

A 71-year-old Winnemucca resident has been identified by the Nevada Highway Patrol as the victim of a crash that happened Wednesday, April 10 on Interstate 80 between Fernley and Lovelock in Churchill County.

Schools in Dayton go on voluntary lockdown after report of man in park near school with a rifle

UPDATE 1:05PM: According to Lyon County Sheriff's Office Lt. Abel Ortiz, the man who was believed to be carrying a rifle, was instead carrying a pellet gun and had been shooting squirrels at a park near the elementary school. Lt. Ortiz said the man knew that he had made a mistake and was embarrassed for creating the situation. The lieutenant added that the schools did what they were supposed to and there was no threat.

UPDATE 12:35PM: Here's the latest from the Lyon County School District via Facebook. "The precautionary Lock-In at all three Dayton area schools were lifted as of 12:13 p.m. As a result of the prompt actions of law enforcement, school operations have proceeded as normal with all students and staff safe and secure."

Schools in the Dayton area went on voluntary lockdown late Wednesday morning after a report of someone driving around the Dayton High School campus in a pickup with a rifle in the truck, Lyon County Manager Jeff Page said. The voluntary lockdown was a precaution, said Page who contacted Lyon County sheriff's office officials.

Carson City firefighters knock down blaze at Adele's restaurant

UPDATE 7:18AM: Carson City Fire Department knocked down a fire at Cafe at Adele's early Thursday morning. The fire caused damage to a storage room located in the back of the restaurant. No one was at the restaurant at the time and there were no injuries, said Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon. The cause is under investigation.

A fire has been reported at Cafe at Adele's on North Carson Street. The fire was reported at 5:19 a.m. by a security guard working for another company who passed by the restaurant and saw smoke. Firefighters are on the scene.

The fire was in the rear of the building, and chef/owner Charlie Abowd said it appears to have started in the laundry storage area. The building was built in 1864, and the restaurant has been in the Abowd family for 41 years.

Carson City arrests: Woman jailed for drug possession after driving too slow

A 40 year-old Sparks woman was arrested Friday night for suspicion of felony drug possession and a lesser charge after the vehicle she was driving had been stopped for impeding traffic, a Carson City sheriff's deputy reported.

Meet in the parking area next to the ranch house at Silver Saddle Ranch off of Carson River Road. Please join us for an 8-mile round-trip hike that traverses most of the "Escape from Prison Hill" trail. We will head up Dead Truck Trail, cross over to hike down to the most western end of Prison Hill, turn south and then east to arrive at the highest point of Prison Hill.

NHP: Highway 395 re-opens near Jacks Valley Road after truck emits strong odor

UPDATE 1:22PM: The truck is now being assessed by East Fork Fire and has been taken back to the Douglas County Transfer Station where it had originally left from, officials said. The Nevada National Guard Civil Support Team is conducting a Hazmat assessment at the Douglas County Transfer Station, which is now closed indefinitely. There are no reported injuries at this time. Highway 395 is now open in both directions.

UPDATE 12:35PM: The scene has been declared safe and the roadway has been reopened in both directions, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol via Twitter. There is no longer a hazmat situation.

A 57 year-old Carson City man has been identified as the fatality in Thursday night's multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 580 just south of the Galena Creek Bridge.

Philip Dale Hatley of Carson City was killed after he had exited his vehicle and was struck by another that had lost control on the freeway.

NDOT begins widening of U.S. Highway 50 West of Silver Springs
