Woman OK after South Lake Tahoe police discover she was buried in snow while inside car
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — The stories about February's massive snowfall at Lake Tahoe keep coming in. The latest involves a snow removal operator who struck a vehicle he didn't see that was completely buried in the snow. What comes next was beyond a surprise.
On Feb. 17 the snowplow driver was eastbound on Cedar Avenue, west of Stateline Avenue when he struck something. He got out to investigate and found a car buried in the snow, according to the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.
The trunk had popped open with the impact. Due to hitting a car, SLTPD was called to the scene. Thinking the car just needed to be towed away, staff started shoveling out the car so a tow truck could gain access.
It was a surprise to all when a woman was looking out of her car window and what turned out to be her rescuers.
The unidentified 48-year-old woman told South Lake Tahoe Police she had been in her car "four or five hours" when the plow hit her. It had been snowing hard and the car became completely buried. The car's battery was dead and she couldn't open its windows.
Had the plow not hit the car the outcome may have been much more serious. It is unknown by officers if she was living in her car or where she is from.
