NHP identifies Winnemucca resident in fatal I-80 crash in Churchill County
A 71-year-old Winnemucca resident has been identified by the Nevada Highway Patrol as the victim of a crash that happened Wednesday, April 10 on Interstate 80 between Fernley and Lovelock in Churchill County.
On April 10, 2019 at approximately 6:20 a.m., NHP troopers responded to a serious injury crash on Interstate 80 near mile marker 86 in Churchill County (between Fernley and Lovelock, 3 miles east of Trinity Junction). The crash involved a pickup truck that had crashed in the center median area of the interstate.
Preliminary investigation shows that a white 2006 Ford F-150 pickup was traveling westbound on Interstate 80 towards Reno. The driver allowed the pickup to enter the outside shoulder. The driver then steered to the left causing the vehicle to enter the center median where it traveled down an embankment and overturned.
The driver of the F-150, Earl Leander Sallee, 71, of Winnemucca resident was transported from the scene by emergency medical personnel. Unfortunately, he succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the crash and was pronounced deceased a short time later.
The Nevada Highway Patrol is seeking additional witnesses to this crash.
