Carson City area weather: Cold front ahead to bring wind, overnight lows in the 20s

An approaching low pressure system will bring strong, gusty winds Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag warning for Carson City and much of the Western Nevada Sierra Front.

Carson City IHOP, site of 2011's mass shooting, has closed and is set to be demolished

The Carson City IHOP on South Carson Street has officially shut its doors and the building is set to be demolished. At this time, IHOP corporate said they have no plans to reopen another IHOP chain in Carson City, but they do have three locations in Reno and one in South Lake Tahoe.

Carson City weather: Gusty winds prompt Red Flag Warning, extreme fire danger for region

With a strong cold front pushing into the region that will bring gusty winds and low humidity over the next two days, the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for northern and western Nevada and Lake Tahoe region. Weather conditions will be especially dangerous along the 395 corridor from Susanville to Mammoth Lakes.

Runners gather for 8th anniversary of IHOP shooting for Memorial Run, Walk

On Sept. 6, 2011, Nevada Guardsmen Lt. Col. Heath Kelly, 35, Master Sgt. Christian Riege, 38, Sgt. 1st Class Miranda McElhiney, 31, and Florence Donovan-Gunderson, 67, lost their lives in a senseless crime, when a man entered the Carson City IHOP and opened fire.

Now, eight years later, their memories are kept alive by their friends and family, and by the community they called home.

Carson Rifle and Pistol Club Hosts Rifle Match, Saturday, Sept. 7

The Carson Rifle and Pistol Club will hold two rifle matches on Saturday, September 7th, 8AM to 1PM. The matches will consist of a "Mini Palma" (a 100 yard match suitable for most .22 rifles) and a Vintage Military Rifle Match. Suspect dead, Lyon County deputy suffers minor injuries in Silver Springs shooting

Lyon County Sheriff's Office reports an officer involved shooting incident Monday night in Silver Springs in which a suspect was shot and died at the scene of a domestic battery call and a deputy sustained minor injuries.

Carson City deputies arrest pair for beating victim with bat in front of toddler during burglary

Two Carson City men were arrested early Thursday morning on Tiger Drive after allegedly beating a man with a baseball bat in front of his toddler during a robbery.

Jose Rivera, 25, and Brandon Sanchez, 21, were arrested after dispatch received a call of a home invasion burglary in progress.

Carson City rifle range to get user fees, wildfire prevention

Target shooting has become a fairly common cause of wildfires. They've even happened at recommended public shooting ranges. Last year, shooters at the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range touched off a 200 acre fire and already this year there have been two small fires there.
