Touched By Angels gift shop is selling hand made cat toys to raise money for Catmandu cat rescue. Check out this beautiful store at their new location at 205 East John Street. Purchase a large crochet dangling cat toy for $5 or a small one for $3. 100% of the proceeds will go to help the cats at Catmandu!

Touched By Angels is opened Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Nevada Humane Society Animal Files: Making lemonade out of lemons

It’s hard to find someone that wasn’t impacted by our recent weather. From heavy rains and flooding to serious snow and ice, everyone in our community was affected in some form. The animals, homeless pets especially, were among those.

How adventurous are you? Ascent Runs continues their Be Bold, Run in the Cold Winter Trail Series with a five or ten kilometer run starting at Centennial Park. If you’d like a less strenuous outdoor activity, then the Downtown Business Association’s monthly Wine Walk is a perfect choice. The wine walk is a rain, snow, or shine event, so bring an umbrella. As I contemplate the topic of this week’s Animal Files Column, I struggle. The reason is because the story that I am going to share is based off secondhand information. I don’t know whether it’s true or false. The ethical part of me doesn’t want to put misinformation out there. The other part of me knows that this story is spreading like wildfire on social media and that people are already forming their own opinions.

Carson City shelter participates in Nevada Humane Society's holiday pet adoption drive

The Home 4 the Holidays Pet Adoption Drive is underway and so far, 318 dogs and 423 cats have gone home and are now considered Nevada Humane Society alumni. The holiday pet adoption drive, which the Carson City shelter is participating, runs through Jan. 1, 2017 and the goal for Nevada Humane Society is to place 1,200 animals into loving homes.

The more adventurous of you will be participating in the Be Bold, Run in the Cold ‘Run with Rudolph’ 5/10K near Western Nevada College. If you’d rather be indoors, the Carson Mall is hosting a Holiday Craft Fair, and at noon will celebrate the grand opening of Ogres-Holm Pottery. Nevada Humane Society Animal Files: Working cats available for adoption

Traditional home adoptions aren’t for every cat which is why the Working Cats of Nevada Humane Society are seeking jobs in a more unique setting. Working Cats are looking for a home in settings such as a barn, warehouse, corporate campus, library, small business or plant nursery. In exchange for room, board and meals, the Working Cats will do just that — work, in an effort to keep your property rodent free as well as provide your guests with entertainment as they perch above your heads playing hide and go seek.

Free Kitty Adoption Day set for Dec. 3 at Carson City's Michael Hohl Honda

There will be a free Kitty Adoption Day on Saturday, Dec. 3 from 12-4 p.m. at Michael Hohl Honda in Carson City.

Catmandu is partnering with Honda to help disadvantaged cats and kittens find their FURever homes. Catmandu is a Carson City non-profit cat and kitten rescue that provides a homey, cage-free environment to help them feel safe.

The organization teaches the felines to love and trust people again with hopes of finding the right people to adopt them. Catmandu receives no government funding, relying solely on volunteers and the local community for donations.

Date set for summer music festival to honor fallen Carson City Deputy Carl Howell

A music festival and memorial event to honor fallen Carson City Sheriff’s Deputy Carl Howell has been set for Aug. 19, 2017 at Battle Born Harley-Davidson in Carson City, according to organizers.

Horses gather at the refurbished watering fountain during Nevada Day Parade

It didn't take long after the recent refurbishing of the horse trough watering fountain before units from the Carson City, Washoe, Reno, and Sparks law enforcement units stopped by to water the horses during the Nevada Day Parade on Saturday. This was a wonderful flashback to the original purpose of the fountains and the rebuild this year.

I’m usually a lover of sunny days, but right now I say bring on the rain. The moisture is a welcome help to our heroic firefighters in Lake Tahoe and Washoe Valley. Because of the wet weather and the recent fires, some activities have been postponed: most notably the Advocates to End Domestic Violence’s Annual Light After Dark Run. There are still plenty of things to occupy your time, but the weather may force more cancellations.

It’s hard to believe that nearly two years ago we began a partnership with Carson City, as the city selected Nevada Humane Society to lead Carson City Animal Services. Our tasks would not only include pet adoptions and animal sheltering, but the animal regulation services too.

Street Vibes and the Candy Dance are always the endcap to September. Arts and crafts take over the small hamlet of Genoa this weekend; get a jump on your holiday gift list. All the other corners of Northern Nevada are a playground for the thousands of motorcycle riders and enthusiasts here to enjoy the bike rally. Battle Born Harley on Research Way offers a huge party without ever leaving the valley. Those two events are hardly all that Carson City and our neighboring counties have to offer, however.
