Carson City shelter participates in Nevada Humane Society's holiday pet adoption drive
The Home 4 the Holidays Pet Adoption Drive is underway and so far, 318 dogs and 423 cats have gone home and are now considered Nevada Humane Society alumni. The holiday pet adoption drive, which the Carson City shelter is participating, runs through Jan. 1, 2017 and the goal for Nevada Humane Society is to place 1,200 animals into loving homes.
“With the thousands of homeless pets right here in Northern Nevada, it’s important to get everyone involved, especially during this season of love and giving. We’re asking that 1,200 pets find homes this holiday season, but we also mean every day thereafter, because to us, pets are family and to adopt is a commitment,” explained Kimberly Wade, Senior Manager of Communications and Events for Nevada Humane Society. “We have dogs and cats of all ages, as well as bunnies and other small animals. We feel they all deserve second chance and want nothing more than to see them all go home in time for Christmas!”
The Reno shelter is also participating.
In addition to Home 4 the Holidays, beginning Dec. 22, people are invited to visit the shelter in Reno, meet with adoptable animals, and select the one they would like adopt. The normal adoption process will follow, but if the adopter chooses, instead of taking the pet home at the time of adoption, Santa and his elves will deliver the pet to the new home on Christmas Day! Though there are many adorable cats and dogs that need new homes, Santa is pretty busy this time of year so deliveries are limited and available on a first come, first served basis. All dogs and cats are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Adoption fees vary:
· Adult Dogs: $40
· Adult Cats Under the Age of Five: $25
· Adult Cats Over the Age of Five: FREE
· Kittens $60
· Puppies $200 ($100 rebate offered with a certificate of completion for a puppy training class)
Home 4 the Holidays is a nationwide pet adoption drive which began in 1999. It was created to move animals out of shelters and into good homes during a season of giving and love. Since its inception over 12 million pets have gone home.
Nevada Humane Society is open for adoptions seven days a week at two locations (except for Christmas) from 11am to 6:30pm and an hour earlier at 10am on Saturday.
