Nevada agriculture officials warn against human, pet contact with bats after 8 confirmed rabid

The Nevada Department of Agriculture Animal Disease Laboratory has confirmed eight positive rabies cases in bats in Lyon, Washoe, White Pine, Clark and Elko counties. Rabies is common in bats throughout Nevada, and bat activity tends to increase between the months of May and October.

Reno Aces eclipse 200 homers in 15-6 win over Omaha

Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation (WARF) is hosting a casual al fresco Yappy Hour on Tuesday, July 9, from 4-6 PM at Genoa’s Sierra Chef. Canine companions are invited to attend. WARF is raising awareness about its new Animal Sanctuary under construction in Stagecoach. Yappy Hour is open to the public and admission is free.

Big changes ahead at Catmandu in Carson City

Catmandu in Carson City is scaling its cat and kitten services back a bit.

Executive director Linda Buchanan was recently diagnosed with Behcet’s Disease, a rare auto-immune disorder after two years of strange symptoms and increasingly poor health. Although Behcet’s disease is not considered life-threatening, it requires a significant reduction of work and stress to keep the disease contained.

Hundreds of dogs and cats are waiting for you at local animal shelters and rescue groups in Nevada, where pet adoptions will be free Friday and Saturday, June 14-15 during Maddie's Pet Adoption Days. Dayton Valley and Lake Tahoe students compete in Scripps National Spelling Bee

There are two from the Northern Nevada area who competed in this week's Scripps National Spelling Bee in National Harbor, Maryland.

Morgan Salvador, a 12-year-old 7th grader who attends George Whittell High School in Zephyr Cove at Lake Tahoe was Speller No. 284, while Morgan Bumgardner, Speller 275, is a 13-year-old Dayton Intermediate School student. He is listed as being from Mound House. Both students were, unfortunately, eliminated as they worked their way into the finals.

After 5 years and more than 1500 cats and kittens saved, Catmandu is hosting their first ever big event on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the Carson Nugget Casino, 507 Carson Street, Carson City! “Caturday Night Out,” a fun-filled night for animal lovers, will include dinner, music and dancing with live band One Way Street, door prizes, a raffle, and auction.

Doors open at 5 pm. A buffet dinner featuring both a vegetarian and meat option starts at 6 pm. Emcee Monty Wolf of KOH radio takes the stage after dinner for the raffle, prizes and auction or silent auction.

Police horses take water break at refurbished Carson City trough during Nevada inauguration
