Carson City deputies make multiple misdemeanor arrests over extended holiday weekend

A 32-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 6:21 p.m. in the 500 block of Country Village Drive. He faces a misdemeanor charge of larceny. The man allegedly took two pairs of jeans, a sweater, socks and a long sleeve shirt from a department store in the 3800 block of Carson Street.

He was stopped by store security, where he gave back the items, provided a driver's license and telephone number and then abruptly left the store, according to the arrest report. Deputies made contact with the man at his residence where he admitted to the theft, blaming numerous medical conditions and claiming that a friend told him how easy it was to steal from the department store so he decided to try it out, the arrest report states. Bail: $357.

— A 35-year-old Carson City man was arrested Dec. 29, 3:10 p.m. in the 800 block of Roop Street. He faces misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and destruction of property.

According to the arrest report, the suspect was reported to be belligerent, barefoot and yelling in the front yard of the residence. Witnesses said the man was upset about a barking dog and was shouting profanities and threats. The man pounded on the door of the victim leaving dents to the front door.

The man was told to calm down and lower his voice by police officers. He did not relent, flipped off the couple whom he was yelling at and was arrested for disorderly conduct. He refused to give officers his name and date of birth until later where he reluctantly provided information. Bail: $474.

— A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, Dec. 28, 11:28 p.m. on misdemeanor domestic battery and drug paraphernalia charges.
According to the arrest report, officers were called a Hot Spring Road residence in reference to a domestic dispute.
Upon arrival made contact with a woman who was upset and shaken. she was holding her two-year-old son who was also upset. The woman stated her boyfriend accused her of talking to other men and thought she was being unfaithful. He had been verbally abusing her and yelling at her all day, the victim said.
After returning from the store, the man continued to berate the woman and the woman feared for her safety as the yelling turned into threats, the report states. She stated the man is a member of a local gang and she is aware of his violent past.

The woman stated the man grabbed her and tried to get her cell phone out of her hands as she tried to flee the apartment. She ran out of the back door, pursued by the man who grabbed her by here hair and pulled her to the ground, the arrest report states. The woman stated she was holding her two-year-old when the man attacked her and she was unable to get to her feet, with the man clawing her face and head.

The office observed red scratches and abrasions on the upper left portion of the woman's forehead and above her left eye, consistent with her story.

While speaking with the officer, he requested other deputies respond to another apartment where the man was at. After attempts at knocking on the door the suspect fled the residence. Three Capital City Patrol officers found the man, aiming their flashlights on him with his hands held up.

The suspect was detained and agreed to speak with the officer. He said he and the woman were arguing but that he didn't touch her. He said he may have been grabbing for her phone but never hit her or grabbed her hair, the arrest report states. The officer asked about the scratches on the woman's head. He said he had no idea what happened to her head, the arrest report states. During a pat down search of the man officers found two marijuana pipes inside his left breast pocket. along with a razor blade the man said he carried for protection. Bail: $5,396.

— A 30-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Dec. 28, 8:48 p.m. in the 3200 block of East Nye Lane. She faces a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery. According to the arrest report, officers were called to the residence where officers met with the mother of the suspect. The victim said that her daughter came home intoxicated and started punching her and throwing things around the home. The officer could see a red mark on the woman's left cheek and there was broken glass on the kitchen counter that broke. She was arrested for domestic battery and taken to jail. Bail: $3,137.

— A 25-year-old Carson City woman was arrested early Sunday, Dec. 29, 12:12 a.m. in the 300 block of North Carson Street. She faces a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery.
According to the arrest report, officers were dispatch to a bar regarding a fight in progress. Officers spoke with the suspect who was agitated and began screaming at a deputy that the only reason he was talking to her is because he is white and she is not, according to the arrest report.
The deputy tried multiple times to calm the woman but she continued to yell at him, the report states.
Officers then met with the victim who stated she was dancing inside the bar when the woman approached her, putting her elbow in her face. The woman said she attempted to move out of the woman of the woman's elbow several times, but that suspect continued to put her elbow in the victim's face.
The victim said she then moved the suspect's elbow away from her face and asked her to stop. She stated the suspect then grabbed her hair, pulling a large chunk of it out, and punched her in the face. Several witnesses on the scene confirmed the victim's story.
The arresting officer observed a small mark on the woman's face with a small amount of blood coign from it. The victim stated she wished to press charges on the suspect for battery. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to jail. She continued to yell and scream and kicking the back of the patrol vehicle, the arrest report stated.
Jail staff took the woman inside the facility. Once inside she was placed in a single cell due to her behavior. She began to kick the door and threw her issued jail shoes at the window of the cell. Jail deputies had to enter the cell and take her shoes away from her. Bail: $1,137.

— A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested Dec. 27, 1:52 p.m. in the 900 block of East Long street. He faces misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and being in violation of a suspended sentence.
According to the arrest report, officers stopped the driver of the vehicle for having an expired registration. The passenger in the vehicle, who is on Alternative Sentencing with a condition to obey all laws, admitted he had a marijuana pipe in his jacket. Bail: $2,137.

— A 23-year-old Carson City man was booked into jail on Dec. 27, 1:30 p.m. on a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued Dec. 18, 2013 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.

— A 21-year-old Carson City man was transported from Washoe County to Carson City Jail two misdemeanor warrants for probation condition violations issued August, 20, 2012 from Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $6,000.

— A 36-year-old Carson City woman was arrested at 8:24 p.m. in the 100 block of Rice Street on suspicion of DUI and failure to maintain a lane of traffic.

According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched after a witness reported that a female driver appeared to be driving under the influence and went inside a bar.

A witness reported the driver of a white Ford Escape attempted to pass his vehicle as it weaved while traveling south on I-580. The witness said that he continued to drive and put his signal to make a left turn onto John from Carson Street where the driver then cut him off, driving though the median while passing him. The incident was also witnessed by a second person who said that she had to slam on her breaks to avoid hitting the Ford Escape.

With the witness and officer outside the bar, the woman walked out of the bar and then went back in and yelled "who called the cops?" the arrest report states. The woman was urged to come outside the bar where she became argumentative, stating the officer had no right to stop her.

The officer told the woman that she was called in as driving while intoxicated. The woman stated she was positive that she had nothing to drink and was sober. She was asked if she had anything to drink inside the bar, where she replied that she had not had anything to drink all day, the arrest report states.

The woman had a strong odor of alcohol coming from her breath as she spoke and had red, watery eyes. The woman then asked the officer if he knew the law and again said he had no right to stop her.

The officer asked the woman if she would perform field sobriety tests. She said that she would not do the "stupid tests" and then crossed her arms, the arrest report states. The woman was placed under arrest. She submitted to a preliminary breath test in the back of the patrol car where she blew a .273. She was taken to jail for the evidentiary test of her breath. At the jail the woman blew two consecutive samples, first with a .318 and the second with a .330. Bail: $1,219.

— A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested Dec. 28, 2:56 a.m. at East William and Valley. He faces a misdemeanor warrant charge of failure to appear. He was stopped after going through a red light without stopping at Stewart Street and East William. Bail: $311.

— A 32-year-old Carson City man was arrested Dec. 27, 11:39 p.m. near Woodside and Airport Road on a failure to appear warrant issued Oct. 4, 2013 out of Dayton Justice Court. Bail: $1,000.

— A 20-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Dec. 27, 10:16 p.m. at Columbia and Fairmont on a contempt of court warrant out of Carson City Justice Court issued Dec. 12, 2013. The driver was stopped for not dimming his high beams as the officer was driving oncoming. The officer flashed his high beams several times but the driver didn't turn them off. The driver caught up the vehicle. The passenger was identified as one whom the officer knew had a warrant issued for her arrest. Bail: $500.

Those arrested and facing charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

A 44-year-old man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of unlawful occupancy of real property and violation of a suspended sentence, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report. The man was occupying the home of a deceased person without permission.

UPDATE 3:11 PM: The fire in the 1400 block of Monte Rosa Drive was contained to the garage and was knocked down quickly, according to CCFD Battalion Chief Jon Pedrini. The fire did not extend to the main structure. No one was home and there were no injuries. The cause is under investigation.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called late Monday morning to a structure fire in the 1400 block of Monte Rosa Drive.

For years, advocates have called upon presidential administrations to reclassify marijuana or deschedule it entirely from the DEA’s list of controlled substances.

Nevada Division of Forestry state nursery is open for business beginning Thursday, May 9. When we first bought our home in 1988 with its 2.5 acres, there were some poplars, pines, blue spruce, willows, and grass, but little else. I soon discovered the state nursery and filled the yard with flowering shrubs and other plants. I added lilacs, sand cherries, golden and Nevada currants, sumacs, Apache plumes, and incense cedars.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office arrested a Dayton man Saturday for possession of child pornography. During the investigation, officers also learned the man was a local little league coach.
