2019 Carson City National Night Out earns top 3 rank in the nation
The Carson City National Night Out event held in August has been awarded third in the nation among communities with a population of 50,000 to 100,000. Significantly, Carson City was the only Nevada jurisdiction to receive an award this year.
Since 2003 when this community received its first “Rookie” award, Carson has been recognized every year consecutively.
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong attributes the successes to the organization of the event, and the tremendous partnerships and sponsors that come out every year.
While the goal has always been to strengthen the relationships that law enforcement enjoys with the community, here locally, we go well beyond.
One could say that National Night Out in Carson is all about the relationships with all local, state and federal public safety entities, military included, city departments, and our residents.
Added to the composition, the participation of service organizations, profit and non-profit organizations, as well as all of the local sponsors, the event has created a one stop celebration of resources here in the community that stand ready to assist anyone in need.
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all of our partners for creating such a successful event each year. As a community, we recognize the value of collaboration and camaraderie here. It is because of this philosophy that we able to provide for the best possible outcomes when it comes to the safety of our businesses, neighborhoods, schools and families.
We are continuously looking for ways to improve on the health and welfare of everyone in Carson, and the results are very positive. In 2018, thanks to the community wide support and participation, Carson City witnessed it lowest crime index rate since 1994, and with just the month of December left for this year, we are sitting at a crime reduction rate of 8 percent below last years levels.
A special “shout-out” goes to the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department and Public Works who facilitates the critical space and equipment needed in Mills Park to house this ever growing event. Mayor Bob Crowell, Fire Chief Sean Slamon, and Sheriff Ken Furlong thank everyone for making Carson City such a great place to live.
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in August (Texas and select areas celebrate on the first Tuesday in October). Neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and much, much more.
