Graham's Word: Gold Dust West Bowling Center Is A Great Place For Everyone
The Gold Dust West Casino has a state of the art bowling center in Carson City that is the best place in town to take the family bowling for a day or night out.
The center is always staying with the times. It has recently renovated to have brand new scoring monitors, and are currently working on renovating the seating as well. The lanes are very well kept, and have a top notch staff. The center has leagues for all ages and fun for all. In talking with the manager Morgan Dickens he says the size of the leagues have decreased because of the economy but reassures that: “Once the economy steps up, they will become much stronger.”
The leagues offer a lot of fun beyond bowling three games: The league offers little “side pots” of money that the bowlers could get in and win a little money on the side which includes card games. The center also has what they call “Strike it Rich” where you will be given a piece of paper after putting a dollar in that will show you what specific frames you will need to strike in to win the pot which has reached beyond $2,000 at times in the past. Dickens says to the community thinking of joining a bowling league: “Give it a shot. You can really get into it.” And if you think you are not a good enough bowler to join a league, think again. “Just like golf, there is a handicap for a reason, so it puts everybody in an even playing field." said Dickens
Adult leagues go on every night of the week Monday-Friday, and Sundays with a Jr./Adult league that is a great time for families to get together and bowl. While the leagues have a fair amount of bowlers, they still have room to grow. It’s a great way to relieve the stress of the work days and have great time with friends while meeting new ones.
They also have junior leagues on Saturday that is extremely fun for the kids to partake in. (I myself bowled in the junior leagues for 16 years.) There is a lot of opportunity for the kids to grow and get a great sense of self-confidence and meet new friends. Dickens told me: “Gold Dust paid for two coaches; Mike Floyd and Maynard Hinton to get their bronze certification so they can become a coach, take the younger bowlers, and teach them the fundamentals to become better.”
The bowling center is equipped with a snack bar as well as a full bar with flat screen TV’s that always have sports action on them, and poker machines at the bar. An arcade is also inside the bowling center to keep the kids occupied. The casino which is connected with the bowling center has great restaurants ‘Ole Ole’ and ‘The Grille’ to feed the masses.
When asked about how the center stays state-of-the-art Dickens states: “I think having a support system behind you, with the casino and the big corporation, they are able to fund what you need to be successful and make the customers happy.” Dickens started working with the bowling center in 2005, and has worked at every position while working his way to the manager position. He has a great rapport with the league bowlers and customers alike.
It is a great atmosphere for everyone and on Saturday nights during “Rock N’ Bowl” they hit the lights and have bowling under disco balls, laser lights, and music.
The Gold Dust West Bowling Center is a great place to take the family or just a day for you. Bowling is a great inexpensive activity. The Bowling Center has a great deal going on right now. (See Ad below)
