Carson City arrests: Intoxicated man with shotgun shoots at tree in residential neighborhood
A 50-year-old man was arrested Saturday in the area of Goni Road for felony suspicion of discharging a firearm in the city limits and misdemeanor possession of a firearm while intoxicated, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
John M. Juarez of Stockton, Calif., was taken into custody at 1:49 p.m. in the 5200 block of Goni Road.
According to the arrest report, Carson City dispatch received 911 calls regarding 6 to 7 shots fired in the residential area of Goni and Jefferson. A witness had advised the shots were being fired from what sounded like a shotgun in the backyard of a residence in the 5200 block of Goni Road.
Deputies made contact with Juarez, who admitted to shooting a 12 gauge shotgun in his backyard. A witness also identified the man as being the shooter. Juarez had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person and blew a .163 preliminary breath test, the arrest report states.
Six shotgun shells were recovered on the back porch of his residence as well as a 12 gauge shotgun. The residence has neighbors to the south, north and east. The man was shooting in an easterly direction toward another residence, according to the report.
Deputies conducted welfare checks on the neighbors and additional residents at the Goni Road address. No injuries were reported. Juarez told officers he was shooting at a tree. He was booked for discharging a firearm in the city limits (a residential neighborhood) and possession of a firearm while intoxicated. Bail: $6,137.
In other arrests:
— A 27-year-old Carson City woman was arrested early Sunday in the area of South Carson and Colorado streets for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI and speeding, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, a deputy patrolling the area of South Carson and Stewart streets observed a Ford SUV going 46 mph in a 35 mph zone. The deputy confirmed it on radar and paced the vehicle between Stewart and Fairview at 46 to 47 mph.
The deputy made a traffic stop and spoke with the driver who stated she knew she was speeding. She had watery eyes and an odor of alcohol. She told the deputy she had consumed alcohol earlier in the evening and had smoked marijuana within the past four hours.
She consented to voluntary field sobriety tests and showed impairment throughout the tests. She provided a preliminary breath test of .130 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. At jail she provided evidentiary breath tests of .120. Bail: $1,249.
— A 55-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 3:49 p.m. in the 1100 block of East William Street for suspicion of DUI, a sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, a Carson City park ranger followed a driver who appeared intoxicated, and nearly hit a juvenile while pulling out onto Saliman From Seely Loop at a high rate of speed.
A CCSO patrol deputy arrived and met with the suspect, who had an odor of alcohol coming from his person. He told the deputy he had consumed a few beers earlier and smoked a bowl of marijuana prior to the stop. He showed signs of impairment on standardized field sobriety tests and blew a .130 preliminary breath test. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI. Bail: $1,137.
