Deadline Monday: BAC urges Carson City residents to vote for return of outdoor concert series
Looking at a 5 p.m. Monday deadline the Brewery Arts Center is hoping for a big Carson City weekend push as it has lost some voter footing in its efforts to bring back the 10-week live outdoor music series it has hosted for two summers.
Carson City has dropped to 11th place in the Levitt AMP Grant Award voting process after it had been hovering in the top 10. Last minute voting efforts from other cities appear to be coming on strong, said Gina Hill, executive director of the Brewery Arts Center.
In order to qualify Carson City must be in the top 25 among finalist cities to be eligible for the grant, after which the proposal will be judged and whittled down to 15 select cities. The winning 15 cities will each get a $25,000 matching grant.
Sponsored by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, a national foundation dedicated to strengthening the social fabric of America through free live music, Brewery Arts Center hopes to qualify as one of 15 winning city organizations competing in the Levitt AMP Grant Awards just as they did in 2016 and 2017.
The Levitt AMP Grant Awards are an exciting matching grant opportunity created by the Levitt Foundation to serve small to mid-sized towns and cities with populations up to 400,000. Up to 15 nonprofits will receive $25,000 each in matching funds to produce their own Levitt AMP Music Series — an outdoor, free concert series featuring a diverse lineup of professional musicians.
Brewery Arts Center submitted the proposal for Carson City at its Minnesota Street Stage venue. A successful campaign for Brewery Arts Center depends on community participation to get as many online votes as possible to bring the concert series back to town, said Hill.
Community support, as measured by the number of online votes received, will be one of the key factors when the Levitt Foundation selects up to 15 winners.
Supporters are asked to visit https://grant.levittamp.org/voter-registration-page/ to register and vote.
Online public voting ends Monday, Nov. 20 at 5 p.m. Pacific Time. The 25 finalists will be selected through online public voting. The Levitt Foundation will then review the proposals of these 25 finalists and will select up to 15 Levitt AMP winners, which will be announced on Jan. 2, 2018.
”The previous two years of Levitt AMP Carson City were a huge success”, said Hill. “We loved seeing the community come together every week to share in the experience of the free concerts and with this grant combined with the generosity of our community, we were able to bring in National Caliber performers from Big Bad VooDoo Daddy to the Young Dubliners for everyone to enjoy. We really need the community’s support through the online voting to be able to do this again.”
Brewery Arts Center asks supporters to spread the word to family, friends, colleagues and neighbors and rally the community to vote for Brewery Arts Center’s proposal.
