Carson City sheriff's log: Three jailed following street race on residential street
A Carson City man and two others were arrested Monday after allegedly street racing in a residential neighborhood in which a witness said he was nearly run over when he advised the racers to slow down, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
David Anthony Wiseman, 30, was arrested on a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor reckless driving. A 22-year-old Minden man was booked on a charge of reckless driving for street racing, and a 22-year Carson City man was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of obstructing.
According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the area of North Curry and Adaline streets. An officer arrived and observed a chaotic scene with up to 15 people in the area and many leaving as officers arrived.
The deputy asked a group of 10 men to have a seat on the curb. Several complied while a few began shouting profanities at the deputy. The scene became tense as several of the men then became defiant and began challenging the officer.
The 22-year-old Carson City man who was later arrested began to instigate the group. The officer ordered him at Taser point to sit down. The man initially refused but changed his mind after multiple patrol cars arrived at the scene, the arrest report states.
A witness told deputies they observed a blue Jeep and blue Honda hatchback street racing in the area and that they were nearly hit as they were driving through. The witness said there were multiple people watching as the two vehicles raced, with one person acting as a flag man and signaled for the vehicles to take off.
Another witness said he observed the men going between 50 mph to 60 mph down the residential street and went outside with his sons to asked the group to slow down. He told deputies the Jeep nearly ran him over and a group approached and challenged him and his sons to a fight, the witness told officers.
Wiseman, who was driving the Jeep, admitted to street racing but denied trying to run over the witness. The 22-year-old Minden man confirmed that he was driving the unlicensed blue Honda. Three people were arrested at 7:21 p.m. and taken to jail.
