Full moon hike, astronomy walk among Washoe Lake State Park events in September
Washoe Lake State Park north of Carson City is offering two interpretive programs during the month of September, including a full moon hike and an astronomy program.
Full Moon Hike
This is a moderate, one mile, round-trip hike to the gazebo on the Deadman’s Creek Trail. There is a short, steep climb of about 380 feet to the overlook. We will discuss bats and there will be an opportunity to sit quietly and listen for the sounds of nocturnal animals along the way. Participants should bring a flashlight and wear good walking shoes.
WHEN: Friday, September 16, 7:30 p.m.
WHERE: The Maze Parking Lot is located in the Main (south) part of Washoe Lake State Park. Take
Exit #44 from I-580 and drive north on Eastlake Blvd. approximately four miles. The park entrance is
on the left. Turn left past the fee booth and it is the first parking lot on the right.
Explore the Night Sky Astronomy Program
Experience the starry night sky over Washoe Lake State Park. Join guest speaker Kristin Sanderson from Fort Churchill State Historic Park on a journey through the celestial neighborhood while she describes the night sky as a valuable resource to be celebrated, protected, and enjoyed. Dress for the weather. Red lights are encouraged, as they do not negatively affect night vision.
