Carson City deputies arrest man for felony assault after road rage incident

A 60-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday afternoon in the 5600 block of S. Carson Street for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, a felony, and false imprisonment, a gross misdemeanor, after a road rage incident, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Mark Haole De La Cruz told deputies he was cut off by the victim, which “wasn’t that big of a deal” to him until he realized she didn’t have license plates. He followed her into a parking lot and used his car to block her in so she couldn’t leave.

According to the arrest report, he said he went up to her window and began yelling at her. When she began rolling up her window, he stuck his arm through the window to stop her.

When deputies asked why he had done so, he told them because he wanted to continue yelling at her, according to the arrest report.

The victim, who had a valid moving permit in her car from the DMV, told deputies she had changed lanes with her blinker and De La Cruz sped up behind her and began following her, trying to run her into other cars.

When she pulled into the parking lot to get away from him, he pulled in behind her and almost struck her car with his own. She said she was scared he was going to crash into her.

She said De La Cruz got out and walked up to her driver side window and began screaming obscenities. She said he was banging on her driver side window.

She locked her doors and began rolling up her windows, and he put his arm through her back driver side window. She continued rolling it up until he pulled his arm out. She was on the phone with dispatch while his arm was through the window, according to the report.

He then went back to his car, still yelling, and flipped her off. The incident was captured by casino surveillance cameras, confirming her story.

The deputy informed De La Cruz the victim had registration, and he said if he had known that he wouldn’t have made such a big deal about it. Bail: $22,500.

In other arrests:
— A 22-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday afternoon in the area of Stewart Street and E. Spear Street for a Douglas County warrant.

Deputies pulled over the man after he was driving erratically, switching lanes and alternating from 10 miles over the speed limit to ten miles under.

The deputy was notified that the man had a sex offender registration notification. When the deputy made contact with the man, he was argumentative, challenging and verbally uncooperative.

The deputy asked the man if he had been consuming drugs or alcohol, he replied that he was “wasted.” Then he told the deputy he was on probation and hadn’t been drinking or using drugs.

The deputy noted his comments were “snide,” but he did not notice any signs of impairment.

Dispatch then told the deputy the man had an arrest warrant for the man for violating his alternative sentencing due to testing positive for marijuana. During the entire proceedings, the man remained verbally abusive toward the deputy. He was booked and transported back to Douglas County. Bail: $1,000.

— A 33-year-old Carson City woman was arrested near E. Williams Street and Anderson Street Monday evening for petit larceny and an ex-felon failing to register, both misdemeanor charges.

While on patrol around midnight, a deputy spotted two subjects on E. Williams Street, one sitting on a sidewalk and another standing on the side of the street.

The deputy made contact and discovered the woman had an active warrant for petit larceny. The records check also indicated both subjects to be ex-felons and neither had registered.

The woman was booked on the warrant and cited for failing to provide an address to the registry. Bail: $1,242.

—A 53-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday afternoon for a Temporary Protective Order violation in the 1900 block of Hamilton Avenue.

The victim came to report the violation to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, and said her husband had been texting her multiple times since she was granted the protective order.

Deputies made contact with the man, and he admitted to texting the victim. When deputies told the man he was going to be arrested, he attempted to go back into his house. They struggled very briefly, and the man was taken into custody. Bail: $3,137.

All information for the crime log (unless otherwise noted) comes from the arrest reports supplied by the Carson City Sheriff's Office, and is considered by law to be public information. All subjects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The policy of Carson Now is to name anyone who is arrested for a felony offense.
