Carson City's 'Feds Feed Families' kick off Food Drive through Sept. 15
The annual "Feds Feed Families" Food drive begins today, Friday Aug. 3 and continues through Sept. 15. Donated food will benefit hungry families in Carson City through the Ron Wood Family Resource Center and Friends in Service Helping (FISH).
Donations can be dropped off Aug. 4 and 11 at Third Street Farmer’s Market Highlight 2018 Food Drive & Farmer’s Market Week.
In 2017, the Feds Feed Families food drive provided 2,722 pounds of food for the hungry in the community, including 1,346 pounds of fresh produce through generous donations by farmers and attendees at Carson City’s Third Street Farmer’s Market.
Anyone wishing to donate canned and nonperishable goods to the food drive can drop them off at Ron Wood Family Resource Center Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and at FISH Monday and through Friday from 9-5.
Please note the donations are to the Feds Feed Families food drive.
The focus of this year’s food drive is on collecting nutritious high-protein foods like tuna, chile and peanut butter along with low-sodium and low-sugar canned produce. Contact Ron Wood Family Resource Center pantry manager Susan Raty at (775) 884-2269 Ext. 107 or Liz Patterson, FISH food pantry distribution manager at (775) 882-FISH (3474), Ext. 109.
Both pantry managers say in addition to food donations, they also need volunteers year-round to assist with donations and distribution.
Linda Marrone, the Carson City Farmer's Market Manager, is coordinating fresh produce donations from the Carson City Farmer's Market for the fourth year.
Public donations for fresh produce can be made at Marrone's Third Street Saturday Farmers Market in Carson City on Aug. 4 and Aug. 11 during Farmers Market Week.
Those who donate are eligible to win a market raffle prize.
The Carson City Farmer’s Market donated over 1,346 pounds of fresh produce to the Feds Feed Families food drive during the 2017 Food Drive.
