Carson City arrests: Counterfeit money found after woman jailed for felony warrant
A 28-year-old woman who was arrested Tuesday for a felony warrant, was found to be in possession of counterfeit currency, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.
Salud Mariela Garcia, who was taken to jail early Tuesday for the warrant out of Reno, was booked on the additional felony charge of possession of counterfeit money.
According to the arrest report, a jail deputy advised the woman had six, $100 bills in her purse that appeared to be counterfeit. The money did not have the correct texture of money and felt the same as printer paper, the report states.
The serial numbers on all of the bills were exactly the same, and on both the front and back of the bills, the letters "GECERSIZDIR" was printed, the arrest report states. The ink water mark that appears on the right side of the bills didn't appear when help up to a light. The deputy placed the bills under a black light and the resolution of the bills was bright, showing counterfeit, the report states.
The woman was read her Miranda warning and agreed to speak. She stated she got them from a man for doing work. She stated she was in possession of the money but had no idea the money was fake. She was unable to give the deputy the address for the man she identified as giving her the money.
She was booked on the additional charge of having forged bills. Bail for the previous charges was $41,137. Bail for the new charge: $10,000.
In other arrests:
— A 27-year-old Dayton man was arrested early Wednesday in the area of Highway 50 and Airport Road for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and speeding.
According to the arrest report, a deputy paced a vehicle going 55 mph in a posted 45 mph zone and initiated a traffic stop. The officer made contact with the driver and a passenger.
The officer informed him the reason for the stop, and asked for his license, registration and insurance. The man said the two were heading to Dayton. The driver had red watery eyes and was speaking with slurred speech, the report states.
The driver had difficulty identifying paperwork as he searched for registration. The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. The passenger in the vehicle appeared highly intoxicated and slurring his words, the report states.
The driver was asked if he would submit to field sobriety tests. The man agreed and could not complete satisfactorily, the report states. He refused to participate in a preliminary breath test. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI.
He was read the Nevada Implied Consent statue and was asked if he would agree to a breath or blood test. The man said he would not submit to either. He was advised there would be a search warrant request for blood samples. The warrant was granted by a judge. He was booked into jail for suspicion of DUI. The passenger in the vehicle contacted a sober driver to pick him up. Bail: $1,229.
— A 53-year-old transient, Mary A. Dimarzo, was arrested Tuesday, 12:46 p.m. for felony suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, a sheriff's report states.
According to the arrest report, a traffic stop led to an investigation of a vehicle for possible narcotics. A canine did an exterior sniff of the vehicle and alerted positive. Inside the woman's purse deputies located a small amount of methamphetamine and residue. There was a clear plastic baggie with a "rock" that appeared to be meth stuffed inside a cracker box and covered with food.
The box was located near the center gear shift. The suspected methamphetamine weighed 2 grams. The woman was read her Miranda warning and said it wasn't hers and that it belonged to the other person in the vehicle. Bail: $3,637.
— A 52-year-old Carson City man was booked Monday, 8:55 a.m. for a misdemeanor violation of suspended sentence warrant issued June 17, 2019 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $1,000.
— A 24-year-old Stagecoach man was arrested Tuesday, 6:46 p.m. in the 7000 block of Highway 50 East for two misdemeanor failure to appear warrants. Bail: $390.
