Bats: Truth or Tales lecture featured at Aug. 1 at Washoe Lake State Park
Nevada's bats and the truth and legends around them will be the featured lecture at Washoe Lake State Park on Saturday, Aug. 1 In addition to seeing photos of some of the 1,232 species of bats found around the world, visitors will have the opportunity to hear the sounds that bats make as they hunt their prey.
After a slide presentation, the group may visit a site close by to watch for and listen to active bats with a bat detector. Learn what these often misunderstood animals eat, where they live and how they are beneficial to us.
WHEN: Saturday, August 1 at 8:30 p.m.
WHERE: Washoe Lake State Park, 4855 Eastlake Blvd. Take Exit 44 from I-580, drive north on
Eastlake Blvd, 4 miles, and the park’s entrance is on the left. This event is held at the equestrian
pavilion.
COST: This event is free after the park’s entrance fee of $7/vehicle. Nevada residents receive a
$2 discount. Cash or checks are accepted.

Meanwhile, the passport challenge continues: The Nevada State Parks Passport Booklet is now available and may be picked up at any state park. Visitors who have their booklets stamped at 15 different parks will earn a free annual pass to all Nevada State Parks.
The booklet, which serves as a travel aid as well as travelogue for park visitors, includes photos, a description of each park, lists of amenities, travel journal pages and spaces for validation stamps which have been designed to reflect each unique state park.
