Douglas community, senior center fund flag poles with private donations

GARDNERVILLE — Over the past few years, the Douglas County Community Services Foundation has been working diligently on a special fundraiser to purchase and install the American Flag in front of the Gardnerville Community and Senior Center.

Residents, families, businesses and friends of Douglas County have generously contributed $97,674 to the Douglas County Community Services Foundation for the purchase and installation of a set of three commercial grade flagpoles. The flagpoles will proudly showcase the American flag, the Nevada State flag and the Douglas County flag in front of the Douglas County Community and Senior Center, Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville.

This magnificent set of flagpoles will include an 80-foot-tall main pole and two 60-foot-tall poles. The three side poles were made possible primarily from a generous donation from the Alexander Family. The main pole will wave the largest American flag in Northern Nevada. As the beautiful Flags fly proudly this will represent for years to come, the perfect final touch to the crown jewel in the Valley, the Douglas County Senior and Community Center.

Audi Reno Tahoe presented the Douglas County Board of Commissioners and the Foundation Board of Directors with a generous donation of $5,000 towards the funding of the flags to be installed and to complete the project of this spectacular flag trio. Audi Reno Tahoe located on South Virginia in Reno has always had a strong commitment to Douglas County and was pleased to assist with the project funding. The level of professionalism and dedication to their customers and employees are the same values and commitment they wish to continue to bring to Douglas County.

The Douglas County Community Services Foundation extends their appreciation to the community, the Alexander Family and Audi Reno Tahoe for supporting this exciting patriotic flagpole program. The construction project will begin soon with the dedication and first raising of the flags tentatively set for mid-September. When construction is complete and dates are finalized, the entire community will be invited to celebrate this remarkable addition to the Douglas County Community & Senior Center.
