Carson Tahoe upgrades patient care at the Regional Medical Center
Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare (CTRH) announces several new upgrades that improve patient care and safety at the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center (CTRMC). These developments include televisions in surgical waiting areas, an Emergency Department IT system complete with patient monitors, and emergency cots to prepare for crisis situations. These developments were made possible with help from the CTRH Auxiliary and Carson City Health and Human Services.
The latest development includes an upgrade to the Emergency Department’s information system, complete with a 52” monitor that displays up-to-date patient information. The wall-mounted monitor replaces a four-by-eight-foot white board that was in the center of the nurse’s station and improves visibility and emergency response time. Emergency physicians, nurses, and hospital staff communication has improved and minute-by-minute updates on a patient’s location, status, and changes are now prominently displayed.
In addition, the CTRH Auxiliary, whose mission is to support patient care, recently raised funds to install individual, flat screen televisions in the pre & post operation rooms at CTRMC. The televisions, which are designed for patients with reduced mobility, are mounted on a swiveling arm that can display programs at virtually any angle. Depending on the procedure, patients are subject to a wait time of one to six hours before and after their surgery.
“The installation of these televisions has improved patient comfort and has allowed this time to pass more quickly, said Nurse Manager Annie Millard. “This is especially important during times of anxiety, which are common for patients waiting for surgery.”
Lastly, Carson City Health and Human Services initiated and secured a grant to improve patient safety. The grant secured 20 emergency medical cots to address patient surges in the event of a crisis. The emergency triage beds are complete with IV poles, adjustable head and foot rests, and safety side rails.
