Elderly victim of home robbery gets help from Secret Witness, offers from Carson City locals
Citizens have chimed into help and Secret Witness has offered a cash reward following the early Sunday morning home invasion robbery a 101-year-old Carson City veteran.
Jim Sorentino and his full time live-in caretaker were awakened before 5 a.m. Sunday when two armed men kicked in the doors of his Canvasback Drive home inside a gated retirement community near Bobwhite, Fairview and Saliman streets. The men held Sorentino and the caretaker at gunpoint, demanding a safe that he didn't have and cash. The robbers then ransacked the home and took a wallet, pocket knife and a wristwatch.
Citizens have stopped by the Carson City Sheriff's Office asking if they could help the man and the caretaker with groceries, transportation and bills. One man told sheriff's office personnel that he felt helpless about what happened and wanted to contribute to the retired Air Force WWII veteran who was robbed a day before Memorial Day.
Meanwhile, Secret Witness is offering a $1,500 cash reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects. Go here to learn more about the offer or call (775) 322-4900.
One suspect was described as about 5 feet 5 inches, possibly white or Hispanic wearing a dark jacket with several pockets, hooded sweatshirt, gloves, and a blue bandana on his face carrying possibly a .45 caliber handgun.
The second suspect was described as a taller male, possibly black male, 5 foot 7 inches to 5 foot 9 inches, wearing a likely LA Dodgers hooded sweatshirt with an "Olveras" and number "8" stamped on it.
Both men left with an unknown amount of items in a smaller car, possibly silver or blue color. Anyone with information is asked to cal detective Sal Acosta at (775) 283-7855, email at sacosta@carson.org or call Carson City Sheriff's Office dispatch at (775) 887-2011.
