Carson City School District honors retiring employees
Retiring teachers and staff of the Carson City School District were celebrated for their accomplishments during the Carson City School District Board meeting at the Community Center on Tuesday, May 22.
A total of 13 staff members from Carson City schools were granted a clock award by Associate Superintendent of Human Resources Jose Delfin. Most of the staff that received the awards had worked for the school district for at least a decade. George Rolin, a custodian of Fremont Elementary School for more than 20 years, expressed his gratefulness when he received his award.
“In my short 23 years, I’ve been blessed to work with this district,” Rolin said.
Many of the staffers who were presented these awards showed a great expression of bliss and honor, and were inspired express their thankfulness to the audience. Jeanette Blanco, a professional for Carson City’s ESL Program, worked at two schools within the district shared her philosophy on what it’s like to watch the kids she teaches grow.
“[The students] are like a rose,” Blanco said. “You watch them budding and then you watch them when they’re in high school, and then you watch them turn into the most gorgeous flower you’ve ever seen.”
Carson High School teachers and staff who received awards are Karen Chandler, Gerry Haven Ballona, Jonathan Lang, Michael Longero, Dina Mitton, and Pamela Reagan. Of Fremont Elementary, Mary Burge, Jeanette Blanco, Judy Holloway, Sandra Irvin, and George Rolin. Jackie Shannon received an award representing Carson Middle School, along with Wayne Moore of the Prison Education System.
Irvin, a retiring music teacher of Fremont Elementary, said that she will miss teaching music education for the school district after her departure.
“I hope you maintain the integrity of the music program in my absence,” Irvin said.
The Carson City School Board meeting on Tuesday carried 12 discussions about
future scheduling for Fremont Elementary, accomplishments of Pioneer High School
such as Prom Queen and King, and Track and Field Qualifiers. Reports of Pioneer
and Carson High School’s activities of this year were also discussed, along with
district bond projects, approval of consent agenda, and a presentation language and literacy skills program for children, “It Takes Two to Talk”.
