Carson City arrests: Man accused of throwing large rock from overpass onto I-580 freeway
A 36-year-old Carson City man was arrested after allegedly throwing a large rock off an I-580 overpass and onto the freeway, a Carson City sheriff's booking report states.
The suspect was located after a witness reported the incident and followed the man until Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies arrived. The suspect was arrested for gross misdemeanor suspicion of disregard for safety of person or property, and misdemeanor throwing a substance at a vehicle or bike.
According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched a 3:34 p.m. to the Snyder overpass for a report of a male subject throwing large rocks off the overpass onto I-580. The reporting party followed the suspect to East Roventini Way and Oak Street where deputies were able to locate him walking.
The witness stated he was driving on Snyder and saw the man pick up a large boulder-sized rock, weighing approximately 10 to 15 pounds, and approximately 12 inches in length, throwing it up and over the chain link fence, landing on the freeway below.
The witness stated he saw the suspect turn around and walk away, carrying two more boulder size rocks. The witness stated he then saw the suspect drop both rocks on the sidewalk and continued walking away, the arrest report states.
The suspect was detained. He told deputies he did not do anything wrong and that was just released from jail, the report states. The suspect kept saying if the witness doesn't have photos then it doesn't matter, the report states.
Deputies went to the area off of the Snyder overpass and located multiple large rocks piled on the sidewalk. They also located fragments of rocks on the freeway below. The Nevada Highway Patrol was advised and deputies requested NHP to take photos of the rocks on the freeway.
Deputies took photos of the rocks that were on the sidewalks, the ones pointed out by the witness. The witness provided a written statement as well as a citizens arrest form.
The suspect was arrested and taken to jail. Bail: $3,137.
