Carson Now turns five
Wow, time sure flies when you are having fun.
So fast that I almost forgot about our birthday. I first turned the Carson Now website on back in November 2009, but our official public launch was in March 2010.
The idea was somewhat radical back then. I wanted this to be the one stop for everything happening in Carson City. We would report news, but we would also make it an open forum for the community to add their news, and we would link out to other stories about Carson City.
I didn't even think it would work at the time. For me, it was more of an experiment, a way to test certain theories I had been pondering since I had started building and managing news websites back in 1994.
We made a lot of mistakes, but that is how you learn and get better. It was a struggle, and not always fun.
But here we are. For the last year and a half, we have been the top news website in terms of traffic in Carson City. We have a wonderful, active readership who keep us on our toes. We also have more than 50 active advertisers who make it possible to bring you the news every day.
All of this wouldn't be possible without a lot of help. First on that list is Editor Jeff Munson, who is without equal when it comes to breaking news reporting. If you hear sirens, or see smoke in the sky, you can bet Jeff has the story. Jeff also excels at keeping track of the chaotic flow of content that comes into the site every day.
Don Quilici keeps us informed about our outdoor world of hunting and fishing every week in his uniquely humorous way. Our Calendar Editor Danielle Cook lets us know what is going on in Carson City. We also have a host of other contributors who share with us our love of Carson City, and help make Carson Now the place you come to for local news.
Thank you to everyone who makes this possible, especially those citizen journalists who send us photos and information when they see news happening. We couldn't do it without you. And thanks to everyone who lives in and around Carson City who make this a very special place.
We are looking forward to the next five years and beyond.
