Youth Wildlife Conservation Experience happening Jan. 20 at Reno-Sparks Convention Center
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sun, 12/17/2023 - 12:45pmThis year's Youth Wildlife Conservation Experience will take place at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center on Jan. 20, 2024. This is a free family event. The goal is simple, to excite and inspire the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts.
Simply bring your family down to Hall 4 and the F-Meeting Rooms of the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, 4590 South Virginia street in Reno for hours of educational fun. Event runs from 10am to 4pm. A quick registration takes place on site, just show up the day of the event.

Nevada Department of Wildlife asks gift buyers to consider the future before buying aquatic pets
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Sun, 12/20/2020 - 10:47amThat colorful fish looks pretty in that store aquarium, and you cannot help but think how much your friend or loved one might enjoy such a pet, but the Nevada Department of Wildlife is hoping you will stop and think about the animal’s future before laying down your hard-earned cash.
In other words, consider what is going to happen to that pet if it is no longer wanted.

But in the midst of a pandemic, a summer of protests, and an election year that shattered records, (pick a category, any catagory) it seems nevadans also found alot to disagree on. It was easy to see if one attended any of these protests.

Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 11/22/2020 - 9:46amSnow and cold, oh boy! The leaves still remaining on the ground are heavy and soggy, so no raking for a bit. That’s good news. The ground is moist again, so more good news. I got the tools, hoses, sprinklers and patio furniture put away before the storms. We turned off and drained the main sprinklers in time. So far so good.

"I was doing some work in my yard in Lakeview, and surprised this bobcat, who was hunting quail and climbed a willow tree in my side yard where we stared at each other and had a good chat."

Armed standoff between Carson City deputies, disturbed woman resolved, no injuries, woman safe
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Tue, 09/29/2020 - 9:46amUPDATE 12:26 p.m.: She is in custody and unharmed, but very dehydrated. No injuries reported.
UPDATE: As of 12:16 p.m. it appears the woman has surrendered to deputies following a nearly three hours long stand off in the area of Prison Hill. No injuries have been reported. She set the fire arm down, put her hands on her head and knelt on the ground. Her vehicle is disabled.

A standoff in the hills near Prison Hill Tuesday morning is currently underway between Carson City Sheriff’s Office and a young woman who had claimed to have shot her mother, and is threatening to kill herself.
