Carson City sheriff’s log: Man jailed on multiple counts of battery on police officers

A 32-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of four felony counts of battery on police officers after deputies were called to a domestic dispute in the 2900 block of Concord Drive, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Mazzerick Nelson was also charged with misdemeanor obstructing and resisting, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of a protection order. A 31-year-old woman was also taken into custody on suspicion of obstructing and resisting an officer, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Deputies were called to the residence at 10:32 p.m. after dispatch received reports of a woman calling for help. Arriving deputies attempted to speak with Nelson who had attempted to barricade the door. When officers made contact, with him, the man punched and kicked officers multiple times, according to the arrest report.

After four officers attempted to detain him, he continued to fight with deputies, punching and kicking them, causing injuries to two officers. Nelson was struck with a baton and continued to resist and then finally complied after being tasered, the report states. The woman attempted to interfere as officers were detaining the man, trying to move past a deputy several times. Bail for Nelson: $83,286. Bail for the 31-year-old woman, $1,900.

In other arrests:
— A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 5:46 a.m. in the area of North Edmonds and Reeves Street on suspicion of DUI. According to the arrest report, officers were called to a male subject who crashed his motorcycle. Upon arrival the officer made contact with the subject with the motorcycle who advised there was another male subject in a white Hyundai parked on the west side of Edmonds Drive facing southbound. An officer responded to the location and observed a male subject seated in the passenger side seat.

The officer attempted to wake the man up while standing at the driver side of the vehicle with negative results. So the officer proceeded to the passenger side of the vehicle and started knocking on the window. The man did not respond to instruction and appeared passed out, the arrest report states. The officer opened the door and started to shake the man. He opened his eyes and looked confused. He had red watery eyes and slurred speech and a very strong odor of alcohol. The keys to the vehicle were on his lap.

The deputy asked the man what happened. He said he was not sure and did not remember anything. The deputy told the man he was covered in vomit along with the front driver side seat and floor board of the vehicle. The front passenger side floor board was dry and clean.

While talking to the man, another deputy said that the motorcycle rider observed the man was in the driver’s seat traveling east on Edmonds. The motorcycle rider told the deputy he assisted the man out of the driver side seat and into the passenger seat. He said he did this so that he could move the man’s vehicle out of the middle of the roadway.

The officer asked the driver if he would voluntarily agree to perform standardized field sobriety tests. He agreed. As the man was getting up on to his feet he started to fall forward and could not keep his balance. The tests were stopped due to the driver’s extreme intoxicated state. He provided a preliminary breath test of .187 and was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI. The motorcycle rider was also arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Upon arrival the officer met with a woman and her mother and sister outside a Mayflower home. The woman advised while she and her family was outside, a blue Dodge Dakota was driving south on Mayflower too fast.

The woman, family members and neighbors yelled at the driver to slow down. The woman attempted to walk across the street when she said the driver of the Dodge Dakota stopped, skidded his truck, turned it around fast and began driving back down Mayflower.

The woman said she stopped in the road out of fear as the vehicle was coming at her. She said the man did not make any attempt to swerve around her. She said the vehicle tried to hit her and then just as it got a little past her, he stopped his vehicle and got out and threatened to hurt the woman and others.

Officers made contact with the man a home on Mayflower and Sherman Lane. He was uncooperative with deputies and yelling. Family members were recording deputies and also being uncooperative, the report states. Sperry was detained and read his Miranda Rights and handcuffed. He agreed to speak, which was recorded in the deputy’s call via dispatch. The man stated he was upset the people were yelling at him and the woman should not have been in the middle of the road but he did not try to hit her on purpose, the arrest report states.

When the officer asked the man why did he feel the need to stop and turn around and stop again, then get out of his vehicle and yell at the individuals on the side of the street, the man said he has only had two hours of sleep, that it never happened and the woman’s story is one-sided. He told the deputy the woman walked out in front of him to get in trouble. The officer asked the man if he tried to avoid hitting the female and he did not answer. He then asked to speak with a VA representative. He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Bail: $20,000.
