Family Stone band to headline 2017 Concert Under the Stars in Carson City
The Family Stone band, founded by musical legend Sly Stone, will headline the 2017 Concert Under the Stars sponsored by the Cafe at Adele's on July 12 at the Brewery Arts Center's Minnesota Street Stage, said Adele's co-owner Charlie Abowd.
Stone himself, though, will not be performing, Abowd said. The former frontman of the Family Stone has been retired for at least 30 years following a long battle with drug use, he said.
"Sly hasn't played with the Family Stone for three decades," Abowd said. "And that's probably conservative."
While Stone won't be in Carson City with the band, it's classic sounds of funk, soul and rock will be this summer for the ninth annual Concert Under the Stars.
"It's a stellar band," Abowd said.

This year's concert will be moved to the Brewery Arts Center's Minnesota Street Stage, Abowd said, because the event had grown too big for W. John Street at Adele's.
"The Brewery Arts Center is happy to host the Concert Under the Stars this year," BAC Executive Director Gina Lopez Hill said. "We will have much of the infrastructure already in place as we will be in the midst of our Levitt AMP Carson City concert series, so we hope our participation can help raise even more funds for the Greenhouse Project."
Adele's Concert Under the Stars is an evening music event organized to benefit The Greenhouse Project, a Nevada non-profit that sustainably operates a community-based greenhouse through Carson High School for the purpose of creating educational and vocational opportunities for students, youth groups and special needs individuals in a garden setting.
It is also a year-round source of locally-grown agricultural and horticultural products for the Carson City community, relying on renewable energy sources for power and using ecologically sustainable growing methods to cultivate vegetables, herbs, and flowers.
The Greenhouse Project web site and Abowd both announced Wednesday that tickets went on sale starting at noon today. Reserve seating starts at $45 and standing room only tickets cost $25.
In addition to the Family Stone band, musician Lydia Pense and the band Cold Blood will also be performing at this year's Concert Under the Stars.
Abowd said only the venue has changed. Nothing else has.
"As in previous years, there will be food trucks, cash bars, and a live auction," he said.
To purchase tickets visit the BAC Box Office at 449 W. King Street in Carson City or the Carson City Visitors's Bureau at 716 N. Carson Street.
Tickets can also be purchased online by visiting The Greenhouse Project's web site here.
