The Greenhouse Project is proud to announce the first MaskurAid Ball, taking place Jan. 4, 2021 in an event where masks are mandatory and costumes are optional.

Taking place at The Governor’s Mansion Nevada Room, the event will observe all social distancing and restricted capacity guidelines.Doors open at 5 p.m., a prize will be awarded for the Best Decorated Mask.

Carson City's newest restaurant and bar, Piazza Bar, is open for business on McFadden Plaza in Carson City.

The eatery is located in the former Bella Fiore location, and is offering Italian cuisine such as salads, pizza, small plates and sharable platters. The menu also boasts a number of custom cocktails.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. The monthly Downtown Carson City Wine Walk takes place Saturday followed by a performance from Tom Petty and Rod Stewart tribute bands during The Do Drop In’s “A Face in the Crowd” homeless fundraiser at Fuji Park. The historic Carson City building that was Cafe at Adele’s at the corner of North Carson and John Street was set for demolition, until it was offered to whoever wants it, so long as they move it from the property to its new home by March 1, 2020.

The historic Adele’s property could be torn down and repurposed to serve the neighboring gas station, according to the Carson City Planning Commission’s upcoming agenda.

Dear Editor: A story titled, “Hunger Warriors” in Reno-Tahoe Edibles’ recent issue, stated The Greenhouse Project was built by Karen and Charlie Abowd. While this was a wonderful piece, this statement is incorrect. It is true TGP grew from a vision Karen had for a community that better served its food insecure.

I would like to express mine and Karen’s immense gratitude for the years and love our community, friends, staff and family have shown through our various endeavors — Cafe at Adele’s, political runs and support of an array of non-profits.

The 11th annual Celebrity Chef & Harvest Dinner, to benefit The Greenhouse Project takes place Monday, Nov. 11 at the Governor’s Mansion, Nevada Room in Carson City.

“I am thrilled this year to be working with chefs and sponsors Collin Smith and Chris Nealon of Roundabout Catering,” said Chef Charlie Abowd, who first started the dinner 12 years ago as a tribute to his father, restaurateur Paul Abowd, and 11 years ago, decided to turn the event into an event that provides a large part of TGP’s annual operating budget.

What's on the outside doesn't always reflect on what's going on inside. Perceptions are just that sometimes. There's usually a lot more going than meets the eye.

And that is the case with Cafe at Adele's following the March 28 fire that swept through but was mostly contained to the laundry room area of the iconic Carson City restaurant that sits on the corner of North Carson and John Street.

UPDATE 7:18AM: Carson City Fire Department knocked down a fire at Cafe at Adele's early Thursday morning. The fire caused damage to a storage room located in the back of the restaurant. No one was at the restaurant at the time and there were no injuries, said Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon. The cause is under investigation.

A fire has been reported at Cafe at Adele's on North Carson Street. The fire was reported at 5:19 a.m. by a security guard working for another company who passed by the restaurant and saw smoke. Firefighters are on the scene.

The fire was in the rear of the building, and chef/owner Charlie Abowd said it appears to have started in the laundry storage area. The building was built in 1864, and the restaurant has been in the Abowd family for 41 years.

Eleven months ago, Charlie and Karen Abowd announced that they would be putting their restaurant, Cafe at Adele's, and the historic Mansard-roofed, Comstock Lode-era Victorian home it is situated in at 1112 N. Carson Street, up for sale.

This Saturday, Dec. 15, marks the annual Cookies with Santa celebration in Carson City at Cafe at Adele’s, offering Christmas cheer to all who attend and providing gifts for children in need. The joy-filled event takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with cookies, cocoa and cider served, and Santa on hand to hear last-minute gift wishes.
