Carson City arrests: Man provides video of girlfriend threatening him with butcher knife

A 36-year-old Carson City woman was arrested early Saturday in the area of 20 College Parkway for felony suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor domestic battery, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Syria Soto was taken into custody at 3:59 a.m. According to the arrest report, the victim told officers the woman came home intoxicated, was confrontational and would not leave the man alone. He said she removed a large butcher knife from the kitchen and walked toward him saying she was going to defend herself, according to the arrest report.

The man showed deputies a video he recorded of the entire incident. In the video, the woman clearly walks into the kitchen and then walks toward the man threatening him with a knife, the arrest report states. She appears later to be throwing miscellaneous items at the man.

During the altercation, he said the woman at one point slapped him in the face with an open hand. The woman told deputies that the man confronted her because he suspected she was drinking and that he punched her with a closed fist in the face. There were no signs of injury in the area where the woman claimed she was struck, according to the arrest report. Bail: $23,137.

In other arrests:
— A 21-year-old Minden woman, Heather Ann Heindl, was arrested Sunday, 12:48 a.m. in the 2100 block of East William Street for felony suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. The woman was found to have a purse containing multiple needles, spoon, loose unknown pills and a pill container with a clear bag and clear substance inside. Inside the vehicle she told officers there was a “loaded needle” on the passenger floorboard. Tests of the substance showed presumed positive for methamphetamine. Bail: $3,637.

— A California woman was booked Saturday into Carson City Jail for three felony warrants; uttering a forged instrument, burglary and attempted burglary.
Michelle Lynn Eilbacher, 41, of San Martin, Calif., was booked at 10:55 a.m. on the warrant charges. Bail: $20,000 bondable.

— A 32-year-old Carson City man, Daryl Osborne James, was arrested Saturday in the 400 block of Corbett Street for a felony warrant, dissuading a victim, and a misdemeanor domestic battery warrant. Both were issued Jan. 18, 2017 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.

— A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 5:46 p.m. in the area of Sonoma and Jackson Way for misdemeanor suspicion of two counts resisting an officer with violence, no current proof of insurance failure to maintain a lane of traffic, failure to yield and not have a license in possession.

The man was stopped for a license plate violation and became belligerent with the officer. He wouldn’t roll his window down when asked to roll it down, he yelled over the officer as he talked and wouldn’t follow commands, refused to step out of the car and then kicked the car door open, hitting an officer on his legs. Deputies attempted to arrest the man after he took a fighting stance. The man resisted, was taken to the ground and cuffs were placed on him. Bail: $3,347.

— A 29-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 6:43 p.m. in the 800 block of South Roop Street for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.

According to the arrest report, the suspect and victim got into an argument regarding a break up and text message. Officers arriving were advised the man had a handgun. They asked if he if had any weapons and the man said he had a pistol in his right jacket pocket.

It was a block semi-automatic handgun that was completely concealed from view.
During the investigation, officers learned through a video that the suspect followed the female victim around the home, where she repeatedly tells the man to leave. He is seen shoving the woman numerous times to prevent her from leaving the house, the arrest report states.

The arresting deputy observed marks on the woman’s chest and neck area from being pushed and marks on her right arm and wrist from where she was pushed into a wall.

The man was arrested for suspicion of domestic battery and carrying a concealed weapon. Bail: $5,637.

— A 19-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 6:21 p.m. in the 3600 block of Desatoya Drive for misdemeanor suspicion of battery. The suspect put a staff member of a group home in a headlock. The staff member put him in a restraint hold until deputies arrived. Bail: $1,137.

— A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 11:54 p.m. for a misdemeanor warrant, failure to appear, issued Sept. 23, 2016 out of Esmerelda County Justice Court. Bail: $375.

A 44-year-old man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of unlawful occupancy of real property and violation of a suspended sentence, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report. The man was occupying the home of a deceased person without permission.

UPDATE 3:11 PM: The fire in the 1400 block of Monte Rosa Drive was contained to the garage and was knocked down quickly, according to CCFD Battalion Chief Jon Pedrini. The fire did not extend to the main structure. No one was home and there were no injuries. The cause is under investigation.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called late Monday morning to a structure fire in the 1400 block of Monte Rosa Drive.

Nevada Division of Forestry state nursery is open for business beginning Thursday, May 9. When we first bought our home in 1988 with its 2.5 acres, there were some poplars, pines, blue spruce, willows, and grass, but little else. I soon discovered the state nursery and filled the yard with flowering shrubs and other plants. I added lilacs, sand cherries, golden and Nevada currants, sumacs, Apache plumes, and incense cedars.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office arrested a Dayton man Saturday for possession of child pornography. During the investigation, officers also learned the man was a local little league coach.

An 18-year-old Carson City man was arrested at a local diner after allegedly stealing a car from a used car lot two days prior to test drive it.

Members of the Rotary Club of Carson City will learn how its annual Educational Grant has helped local students at the club’s next meeting. Carson School District K-12 Curriculum & Assessment Coordinator Brittany Witter received the club’s Carson City School District’s Professional Development Center Grant last year with the goal of funding the “Literacy and Love of Reading through Social Studies” project.

UPDATE 6 p.m.: Courtesy of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office: On May 3, 2024 at approximately 1430 hours, Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputies responded along with Central Lyon County, Carson City and Storey County Fire personnel to the area of 34 Newman Ln. for a report of motorhome on fire. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the fire had spread and multiple other abandoned vehicles caught fire as well. No one was hurt or injured during the incident. The incident is currently under investigation, which is being conducted by the Nevada State Fire Marshall’s Division.

UPDATE 2:38 p.m.: Firefighters from Storey are also now responding.

UPDATE 2:33 p.m.: Multiple vehicles on the property are engulfed in flame.

Around 2:15 p.m. a fire was reported at 34 Newman Lane in Mound House.

Firefighters from Carson City and Lyon County are enroute to the scene.

UPDATE 1:20 p.m.: According to Sheriff Ken Furlong, a student reported they saw a weapon. The incident was investigated and there was no weapon found. The lockdown has now been lifted and students are leaving the school.

UPDATE 1:15 p.m.: Update 05-03-24 at 1:15 p.m.
One student has reported an alleged weapon sighting. It has not been corroborated, but school officials and the sheriff’s office are investigating out an abundance of caution.

UPDATE 12:50 p.m.: The following update was provided by the district:

Carson High School was put on lockdown this afternoon around 12:15 p.m. No person was injured. There is an active situation being investigated in cooperation with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office. We will provide more information as it becomes known. The school is secure. Do not go to the school. No entrances will be permitted at time. The district will provide updates every 30 minutes. Expect the next update at 1:15 p.m.

Carson High School is currently on a lockdown as of 12:40 p.m. Friday, but there has been no incident reported according to Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Two School Resource Officers are on scene investigating why the alarm went off.
