Carson City arrests: Man allegedly runs over girlfriend with car, doesn't stop to render aid

A 36-year-old man was arrested Sunday for parole and probation violation and could face additional charges following an incident in which his girlfriend was allegedly hit by his vehicle.

David Colin Haselwander of Reno was arrested for felony parole and probation violation Sunday, 7:25 p.m. in the 1600 block of Airport Road. The case has been turned over to the Carson City District Attorney's Office for review.

According to the arrest report, deputies responded to the parking lot in the 700 block of Fleischmann Way for a woman screaming. Deputies found the woman, who was rolling from side to side on the ground. The woman told deputies that she and her boyfriend had been arguing and that she had been run over by her boyfriend. She provided deputies the description of the vehicle and Haselwander's name.

Carson City Fire Department was called and took the woman to the hospital for injuries. The woman told deputies she was trying to retrieve her purse out of the vehicle and that's when, she said, Haselwander took off and ran her over, the arrest report states.

Deputies conducted a wants and warrant check on Haselwander and learned he had a felony Priority 5 Parole and Probation warrant for his arrest. He was located in the 1600 block of Airport Road, standing outside.

Officers asked the man what happened. Haselwander said he was taking his girlfriend to detox and she attacked him, threw a glass cup at the car, then grabbed the door as he was taking off and that she got caught under the car, the arrest report states. He told officers he stopped the car as the woman was trying to get out, that she grabbed the door frame and that he ran over her foot or leg, the report states.

A deputy asked the man why he didn't stop and he said he did not have an answer, adding that drug addiction was the worst thing he had ever battled in his life, the report states. He admitted to using methamphetamine the day prior and provided a preliminary breath test of .06, the report states. He was arrested for violation of parole and probation conditions.

At jail he was advised of his Miranda rights and he agreed to speak. He drew a map of the incident. He told the deputy that as he was leaving he observed the woman on the ground in his rearview mirror. He could not explain why he left the scene, did not render aid or call for help, the report states.

He was booked for the parole and probation violation and other charges have been submitted to the Carson City District Attorney's Office for review for possible additional charges. He's being held without bail at this time for the parole and probation violation charge.
