Carson City jail inmate throws books, punches at ceiling tiles in attempt to escape

A 28-year-old inmate at Carson City Jail was booked Monday for gross misdemeanor suspicion of destruction of jail property after damaging ceiling tiles in an attempt to escape, a sheriff's report states.

According to the arrest report, the inmate allegedly threw books at the ceiling, knocking down three of the ceiling tiles near a sink area and then went to another area and managed to punch two more ceiling tiles at the top of the stairs after climbing on top of railing.

Once the ceiling tiles had been knocked down, he remained on the railing and attempted to pull himself up through the ceiling area, the arrest report states.

Officers gave verbal commands for the man to get down, several times, which he did but then refused verbal commands to lay flat on the ground, and continued to be verbally aggressive toward staff.

After disobeying verbal commands several times he was detained using a a non-lethal weapon fired at his leg. He complied with verbal commands. Bail: $2,500.

— A 43-year-old man was arrested Sunday for suspicion of using false identification to avoid prosecution, impersonating another with identification, both felony offenses, and two misdemeanor offenses.

Shawn Michael Siney was taken into custody at 4:34 a.m. According to the arrest report, a deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle, in which the plates on a black Camaro didn't match after a records check, which showed the plates belonged on a Honda.

The officer made contact with the driver, who presented a driver's license belonging to another person. The officer looked at the photograph on the license and realized it was not the male driving the vehicle.

After further investigation, the driver identified himself with his real name, Shawn Michael Siney. A records check showed he had an active confirmed warrant for contempt of court. Dispatch provided the officer of the man with the confirmed warrant, the same man as driving the vehicle.

Siney was read his Miranda warning and stated he used the man's identity to avoid prosecution because he knew he had a warrant for his arrest. He was arrested for suspicion of the felony offenses, the misdemeanor warrant and misdemeanor having fictitious license plates. Bail: No bail hold for the contempt of court warrant. Bail amount listed for the other charges: $20,112.

— A 29-year-old Carson City man was booked Monday for a gross misdemeanor warrant alleging conspiracy to possess a stolen vehicle. The warrant was issued Jan. 6 out of Carson City District Court. He's on a no bail hold.

— A 26-year-old Carson City man, Anthony Michael Fondi, was arrested Jan. 18 for two counts suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance and suspicion of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He also was arrested for a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued Nov. 19, 2020. Bail: $9,137.

— A Carson City man, Mark Samuel, was arrested Friday, Jan. 15, for suspicion of felony dissuading a victim from reporting a crime, and misdemeanor domestic battery.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to a Russell Way address in reference to a domestic battery. Dispatch advised a person had sent them a text message regarding the victim being battered by her boyfriend.

Officers went to the location and observed the woman had a golf ball-sized welt on the right eyebrow just above the eye. Officers learned the man, who was intoxicated, allegedly grabbed the victim and slammed her head on the ground of their apartment.

Deputies were advised later that the suspect allegedly had taken the phone away from the victim and broke it after she told him she was going to call 911, according to the arrest report. Officers looked at the phone and observed the screen of the phone was broken.

The suspect was located asleep in his vehicle parked northeast of the apartment complex in the parking lot. The officer opened the door, identified himself and asked the man what was going on. The suspect advised he did not want to talk because he didn't want to get his girlfriend into trouble. The officer observed a small cut on his upper lip and blood on his right nostril.

With the man being uncooperative, and the injury to the woman significantly larger than the man's injury, the officer arrested him for suspicion of domestic battery, the arrest report states.

The man advised he was highly intoxicated and wanted to go to detox at the hospital.

He refused a preliminary breath test. He was taken to the hospital. He spontaneously advised the woman hit him and he pushed her to protect himself. He was booked for suspicion of felony dissuading a person from reporting a crime, and misdemeanor domestic battery. Bail amount listed: $8,137.
