National Safety Awareness Week events continue at Heavenly Mountain Resort
Heavenly Mountain Resort at Lake Tahoe is on top of safety on the slopes under the management headed by Pete Sonntag. An the new lodge up at the top of the Gondola is doing fine. We'll have complete report on the new million-dollar refuge this week. Here's the latest from Heavenly:
Heavenly Mountain Resort and the National Ski Areas Association are reminding skiers and snowboarders that they play a critical role in slope safety during National Safety Awareness Week, January 15 – 23, 2011.
With the theme “Safety is Your Responsibility,” Heavenly has a week full of fun events planned, from tours of the new Prinoth Beast grooming machines and a CALSTAR air ambulance, to avalanche dog demonstrations, to a scavenger hunt that will test guests’ knowledge of the Skier Responsibility Code.
National Safety Awareness Week schedule of events:
Wednesday, January 19, 2011: Heavenly Ski Patrol will conduct a snow safety demonstration from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., highlighting the finer points of snow safety, including how to use backcountry safety equipment (beacons, probes, etc.).
Location: Top of Gondola
Thursday, January 20, 2011: Heavenly Ski Patrol will host another open house, this one at the new Dipper Patrol station from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Location: Top of Dipper Express Chairlift
Friday, January 21, 2011: Lift Operations will lead tours of the Gondola and Tram motor rooms from 10 a.m. to 2p.m., giving guests the behind-the-scenes look at the multiple layers of systems and equipment designed to help Heavenly provide the safest possible conveyance to the top of the mountain, as well as an opportunity to reinforce safe loading, riding and unloading practices.
Location: Top of the Gondola and base of the Tram.
The safety scavenger hunt will run the entire week. Participants must find the safety stations located on the mountain and recite specific sections of the Skier’s Responsibility Code. All completed entries will be eligible to win a pair of skis or a snowboard.
The Ski & Ride Schools of Heavenly, adult and children’s classes, will also participate in the scavenger hunt, and Heavenly Ski Patrol will visit classes the entire week to help deliver the messages of slope safety and proper slope etiquette.
Thanks, Russ and the crew at Heavenly. We'll also be reporting on the newest skis on the slopes — made of wood. Retro!
