Carson City courthouse open, Meals on Wheels resumes Tuesday, evacuation shelter to close
The Meals on Wheels program is closed today. Seniors are asked to eat their provided shelf-stable meal. Welfare checks are being made on those seniors who th participate in the program. The Senior Center will open at 9 a.m. on Tuesday and will resume normal operations.
The American Red Cross of Northern Nevada will close the shelter located at 411 North Saliman Road today at approximately 12 p.m. Those who may need additional shelter assistance can call the Red Cross at: (775) 856-1000.
Carson City Courthouse, Juvenile Court and Juvenile Probation Services are all open.
There are currently three road closures:
• Fermi Road
• Center Drive between Clear Creek Avenue and Topsy Lane
• Curry Street between Lake Glenn Dr. and Rhodes St.
City crews are actively working to resolve the road closures.
According to the National Weather Service the river will crest below the 2005 flood stage and Carson City will see periods of unsettled weather, including rain and snow, through Wednesday. This may create additional hazards and road closures. We encourage drivers to exercise caution as road conditions can quickly change.
Sandbag locations will be restocked today by Public Works and residents can fill sandbags at the following locations:
• Winnie Lane/Foothill Drive
• Ormsby Road/Washington Street
• Third Street Parking Lot: 202 S. Curry Street
• Fire Station 52: 2400 East College Parkway
• City Corporate Yard: 3505 Butti Way
• Ross Gold Park: 280 East Appion Way
Please be watchful of City crews working as they continue to mitigate and assess storm damage. As a result of the declared State of Emergency in Northern Nevada, City offices are closed Monday, January 9, 2017, as staff is reassigned to storm related duties. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Fire Department, Municipal and District Courts and Juvenile Services will remain open.
