Scientists keep watch on climate and weather as drought grips Nevada

With these designations, southern Nevadans are facing a mild and dry winter and northern Nevadans are looking at an uncertain forecast. All could face water restrictions, crop or pasture loss and, with exceptional drought, water shortage emergencies.

Firefighters continue to battle Monarch Fire in Douglas, officials warn of flash flooding danger

No structures are immediately threatened at this time and the fire is believed to be lightning caused from the previous day. Responding agencies include East Fork, Central Lyon, North Lake Tahoe, North Lyon, Story County, Tahoe Douglas and Truckee Meadows Fire Protection Districts, Reno Fire Department, Bureau of Land Management, Nevada Division of Forestry and the U.S. Forest Service.

As of 9:45 a.m. Thursday morning, the fire in the Pine Nuts in Douglas County, which has been named the Monarch Fire, now covers a total of 1,794 acres.
Multiple agencies are on scene to try and control the fire which is thought to have been caused by a lightning strike during yesterday’s thunderstorm.

Caples Fire 100% Contained, Burned Area Assessment in Progress

There has been almost no change in fire size since October 18. The extreme wind event on October 26 that prompted a public safety power shutoff was a good test of the containment lines and resulted in three small spots which were extinguished. Traces of smoke from interior burning will continue to be visible, but no additional fire growth is expected.

Carson City supervisors accept 90 percent design phase of South Carson roundabout

On Wednesday evening, the project was presented to the Carson City Regional Transportation Commission by chief engineer Dan Stucky. To date there have been 18 public meetings on this project.

Dakotah Orion Bliss-Erb was arrested after deputies were patrolling the area of Silver Sage and Clearview Drive when they observed a taxi parked on the corner with its hazards on.
Earthquakes in Sun Valley, Washoe Valley serve as reminder that Nevada is seismically active

But, more than 1,200 people filed “felt reports” following the magnitude 3.7 earthquake in Washoe Valley the night of June 6. The shaking is a gentle reminder that Nevadans live in the third most seismically active state in the nation, behind Alaska and California.

Explosion at Delta Saloon in Virginia City under investigation

The building has been secured. Union Street will be closed between C Street and B Street until Wednesday after some additional hazards have been removed. No other streets are affected at this time.

UPDATE 1:57PM: C Street in Virginia City is now open following cleanup of the area from Tuesday morning's explosion at the Delta Saloon, according to Storey County officials. The cause is under investigation. Only minor injuries were reported.
