Life in Carson: It's Complicated

If anyone is wondering what our much-maligned governor is up to these days, we have a reported Jim Gibbons sighting. A good friend and very reliable source told me he saw our newly single governor last week at the Century Summit Sierra theater in south Reno, standing by himself in line to see the movie "It's Complicated."

I chastised my friend for not taking a photo. Not being a tech freak like me, he didn't know he had a camera on his cell phone. He knows how to use it now, so watch out, Jim!

Could it be that Gibbons is having regrets about ditching his wife Dawn? What is he doing going to the movies alone, to see a "chick flick" romantic comedy about a divorced couple who get back together? Wishful thinking, perhaps?

Something tells me that Gibbons, whose approval rating has climbed all the way up to 19 percent, has a much better shot at being reelected than he does reconciling with the woman he labeled an "enraged ferret."

We know, it's complicated. But Jim would be well served to start the new year by forgetting everything that happened during the past year.

Just like Jim, we start a new year here in Carson City with a lot of questions to answer about our future. Is the new Nugget downtown redevelopment project the answer to our economic future? How will the newly opened freeway affect business? Will the V&T become the tourist draw we are hoping for?

Those were some of the topics of discussion we were having at the New Year's Eve party at the Nevada State Library & Archives with many of the main players in these issues. There is a lot of hope that things will look up for us here in the capital city after a challenging year.

But as my friend Guy Rocha said in a TV interview about the new Nugget project, the devil is in the details.

We are going to start hunting down those details about the Nugget project this week, and continue until we find out if the devil is there or not. It's going to be a long process.

After all, it's complicated.
