New Year's Eve

A rescue at sea is always riveting, but the 2020 New Year's Eve Rescue gave me chicken skin all over. In full disclosure I have not ventured out to sea since our honeymoon when my wife did most of the fishing and I did most of the crabbing. Unless standing on shore, anchored in sand, I have no love for the sea. To me a sea cruise is being under house arrest, but with a chance of "drownding."

An elderly driver involved in a single vehicle crash that happened New Year's Eve in Genoa died Monday at a local area hospital, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Heading into last day of 2019, we're looking at partly sunny skies with a high around 50 and low around 30. Activities around the capital city region are lined up through the day and evening. As we head into the final Monday of 2019, we're looking at a slight chance of light snow in the morning as a weak weather system brushes the region. New Year's Eve celebrations at Stateline, Lake Tahoe and Carson Valley had a lower number of calls for service than the 2017-2018 celebration with 11 arrests between the lake and valley, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Nevada historian CW Bayer will be the featured speaker at a New Year's Eve luncheon sponsored by Carson's Democratic Men's Committee. The topic of will be "William Ormsby and the founding of the Nevada Territory."

This event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Monday, December 31, in the banquet room of Carson City's Round Table on Retail Drive just off College Parkway. Admission is free and no donations are requested.

This presentation will simply be an opportunity for Carsonites to learn more about the legacy of this little-known but fascinating Nevada historical figure. All are welcome.

Hello Carson City. The weekend approaches and we're still wondering how we went from Thanksgiving to Christmas so fast. We are coming into Friday, Dec. 28, 2018. Besides having to put on an extra layer of clothing and setting the thermostat a couple degrees warmer, conditions outside are what can be expected as we head into 2019: Cloudy to sunny with a continued chill in the air.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office reports 49 arrests during the New Year's holiday weekend beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29 through 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 1 in both Carson Valley and the Lake Tahoe area of Douglas County.

It’s finally here, the last weekend of 2017. It’s fairly quiet around town, until Sunday night, that is. Today, Muscle Powered is leading a five-mile half-day hike along Prison Hill. Take advantage of the unseasonably warm weather, and join them. The Carson Nugget is hosting three nights of comedy this weekend: catch Myles Weber on the stage tonight. Head’s up. Galaxy Theater usually plays a movie from the past on Sundays and Wednesdays. This week, we get treated to the Christmas Classic, Die Hard. You won’t want to miss that.
