Levitt AMP Carson City free Saturday outdoor music series presents soul singer Whitney Myer
Head down to the Brewery Arts Center this Saturday night for an unforgettable free concert under the stars. As with every Saturday night concert, there will be food and drink on hand as well as kid’s activities and fun for the whole family. Thanks to a National award from the Levitt Foundation, the Brewery Arts Center has been able to bring in National caliber entertainers every week this summer.
Sponsored in part by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, a private family foundation that empowers communities to transform neglected public spaces into thriving destinations through the power of free, live music, the Levitt AMP CARSON CITY Music Series presents 10 free, family-friendly concerts to the public currently at Minnesota Street Stage.
This Saturday, July 30 at 7pm the Levitt AMP Carson City Concert Series will open with Carson City’s own Athena McIntyre and soul singer Whitney Myer will take the stage at 8pm. Whitney Myer is a soul singer gone rogue. Teasing the lines of R&B and rock ‘n’ roll, Myer’s electrifying live performances mesmerize audiences and have earned her featured appearances at festivals across the country including Lightning in a Bottle, The Bounce Festival and South by Southwest. Drawing inspiration from experimental musicians like Prince, Little Dragon and Bjork, Whitney Myer has shared the stage with indie artists Allen Stone, DEV, and Fitz And The Tantrums.
Whitney Myer jetted onto the national music scene after wowing Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green, and Blake Shelton on NBC’s singing competition The Voice in 2012. Her rendition of Alicia Keys’ “No One” turned the chairs of all four judges in a frenzy to claim her for their teams. Later that year Whitney released her first solo EP “The Articles of Luminous Nature” which highlights not only her soulful voice but also her musical prowess as a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, experimenting for the first time with electronic elements that could be recreated for live performances.
Before The Voice, Myer had performed and written songs with her longtime family band since the age of 11. Leaving the band—what she calls a “definable comfort zone”—was thus challenging but also allowed her to experiment with electronic rhythms and catchy hooks, taking her artistry to another level.
The 2016 series’ final concert will be Sambada’ on August 6 at 7pm with a special pre-show at 6:30.
The public is invited to bring their own picnics, blankets and lawn chairs to the concerts, which will have an open lawn and lot setting. The Levitt AMP concert series is located at 449 West King Street at the corner of King and Minnesota. Admission is free.
Brewery Arts Center just announced plans to apply for the grant again for next year as the Levitt Foundation has a history of awarding AMP grants for multiple years. Online public voting for Levitt AMP Carson City will begin November 1, 2016. If awarded again, the BAC will produce another 10 week concert series in the summer of 2017.
